Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
Please. The guy is 43 and still pounding the ball just like he always has.
And to Alliball, so he's been a jerk since college, yet money and fame has turned him into a monster jagoff? That makes sense.Comment

He grew up a spoiled rich kid in a posh neighborhood and was pampered and groomed to be a baseball player from a young age receiving all kinds of accolades at an early age.Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
That's cool.
I don't want to seem like I'm defending him using steroids. Like I said before, my main point is for people not to diminish the fact that he's hit 741 homers. You all know my opinion on that, and thats what I'm really here for.
I'm sick of people on the radio constantly referring to these as "dark days" and all this crap.Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
Well, I'm going to diminish that, because it's my belief that while he'd be a hall of famer without steroids, he would not be on the verge of breaking Aaron's record without them.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
I don't think you'll get any argument from any true baseball fan that Bonds was a first ballot HOFer prior to '99. My guess is that he would've retired at around 40 years old with over 100 less HR's without steroids.Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
He probably would have about close to 600, the only different is the ball park would have been made different. This park was made for him, even though the HR are still harder to hit here then they originally thought.Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
How many people loved to hate MJ? How many people loved to hate Gretzky? How many people loved to hate Nolan Ryan? How many people love to hate LaDanian Tomlinson? How many people loved to hate Barry Sanders? Walter Payton? David Robinson? Magic Johnson? The list can go on and on.
Now I'll save you the time by bringing up Kobe Bryant, because Kobe is in the same boat as Barry. They're both grade "A" douchebags.
I can talk all I want about steroids even though I'm a Charger fan. Unlike Giant fan who defends Barry no matter what, I'm not a Merriman appologist. Merriman screwed up and did something very stupid and I'll always look at him different. On top of that, Merriman's teammates actually give a damn about him, while I'm sure most of Bonds's current and former teammates wouldn't care if he got run over by a bus.
Don't ever compare Bonds and Kobe. Ever. Bonds is a flat out arse to people and there are stories and stories to prove it. Kobe is not, and if you truly believe that, then fine. He's made mistakes, surely, but he's also extremely accessible by fans, the media, and his teammates.
Whoops... this isn't about Kobe, is it. Still.... that's not a fair statement."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
Bonds is and always has been as arse. Not just casual pissing people off, we're talking top grade and that was WAAAAY before the money and fame. His college stories are flat out sickening... his treatment of women is distasteful, and his loyalty to his friends is zero. Bah....
The media hates Bonds because his has brought it upon himself like few other athletes I've ever seen. People and the media like nice guys. They'll pass up the opportunity to trash a nice guy, but they'll absolutely roast a guy who's burned them, trashed them, etc."Well the NBA is in great hands but if I had to pick the single greatest player on the planet, I take Kobe Bryant without hesitation." - Michael Jordan, 2006Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
I remember the SI cover that said I am Barry and your not. The hate for Barry has always been strong but he is clearly the best player of his era and that is before roids. I think Barry was caught up in the arms race of average players getting big numbers, awards, and endorsements.
I find it insincere how fans/media/mlb that they didn't know their players wasn't using roids. I knew. There were rumors in Oakland that Mark and Jose about roids abuse. We all knew but we turned the blind eye. Now Bonds is the poster boy for cheating but it is ok for players to take speed.Comment

Re: Not sure why the big fuss over Bonds..
Want to know how many +50 HR seasons he had last century? Zero, his highest was 46 in 1993 and he had only 2 other +40 HR seasons. One more thing, he hasn't reached the batting champion level of AB's needed since 1998 and still managed to hit that much more out.
