To anyone talkin about Melky Cabrera's defense... Dude is a GOOD defender. Not great, but very good. And if you're questioning his arm... I don't know what you've been watching the past couple years, but dude has a cannon...Comment

Man this is just getting too funny. Sounds like the Bronx Zoo all over again. You gotta read this stuff. I'm sure Cashman is somewhere in the background rolling his eyes.

O brother. Let me get a violin for some of you. Anybody that calls Melky "Mickey Jr." obviously doesn't know what they're talking about. Where you got the idea that he's being referred to as so? - I have no idea. Nor do I have any idea where you would get the idea Melky doesn't have an +avg arm. Safe to say you don't know what you're talking about, so why would I even bother? Quit being so sensitive. Is that also an insult? If you answered yes, QFT! Melky has a great arm for a CF. Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
You missed the point. If the Yankees didn't want to deal Hughes then the Red Sox would not be forced to offer Ellsbury. And I would think the Twins would take a deal centered around Lester before one around a guy like Ian Kennedy for the reasons that Lester is a lefty and the whole world got to watch him shine in the World Series which likely didn't hurt his stock.
I agree that Lester has more value than Kennedy, but it's not a big difference imo. And I think if the Yankees were willing to include more/better prospects in addition to Kennedy than the Red Sox with Lester, I think they could make up the difference.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

I feel exactly the same way . The offers currently being rumored on the internet and on ESPN, really annoy me. Maybe it's because I'm a Twins fan and I just want all the talent possible to be thrown our way, but you have to remember Santana is one of the, if not the, best pitchers currently in the game. It's not too often that you can find a Cy Young-quality pitcher available, and when you do, you should be willing to pay top dollar, in terms of players, to acquire him.Colorado Avalanche (NHL)

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
All this trade talk of Johan is making me sick. This is the exact reason why baseball is so wrong. Yeah, sure every year there is some small market team that may make the playoffs, but if you are the O's or Bluejays....why even play. The AL east in particular with the Sox and Yanks has become the microcosm of what is wrong with baseball. The Sox and Yanks are the most lucrative franchises in all of baseball and due to this they can trade and spend whatever they please to lure the greatest players to their team. Sure, alot of guys want to play their due to their history, but honestly....can the Twins trade with any other team when the Sox and Yanks are really the only teams that can trade that kind of talent back to the Twin AND give Johan the contract he wants of 25+ million????
Just seems to make things so irrelevant...I know, this might be over the top...but something needs to be done to even the playing field. As an O's fan, its become way to tough for our players such as Brady Anderson to take the juice and hit +50 homers as a leadoff man and have a chance for the post season..... : PI drink to make other people interesting.Comment

It is unfortunate, but is also the truth. There are too many douchebag owners (Pohlad) profiting at the expense of their fanbase for anything in the current system to change.Comment

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
I did NOT say the Cubs are trying to deal for Santana. I was replying to someone else and giving a hypothetical situation in which the Twins, frustrated by lowball offers for Santana, would look to the N.L. and I gave a few fictional situations in which they would offer Santana for so and so instead of losing him to FA. Try reading what I write before you jump me. If I did not make it clear enough...sorry.
As for the Melky Cabrera situation....and me saying "you see what you see and I see what I see" I was not trying to insult that guy....I just do not see Melky as an above average CF. ....and as far as his arm....my version of cannon obviously differs from most peoples. I believe there are maybe three or four guys in the majors right now that I would consider to have "cannons". I'm sorry, but nobody is going to confuse Melky Cabrera with Bob Meusel, Roberto Clemente, Al Kaline, Rocky Calavito or Ichiro. To me...THOSE are cannons. Of that group, the only one I've never seen throw is Meusel, but it's been widely reported that he may have had the best OF arm ever.
But I will digress on Cabrera, because like I said....it's kind of subjective. I'm not calling him a slouch, so please don't get me wrong there.
and as far as the Mickey Jr. remark....I'm referring to the way Yankee fans are hyping him(and the maybe the Yankee front office) in order to try and pry Santana in the trade...not in his actual gameplay.
Geez....YOU'RE calling me sensitive?....get back on the meds dude.......or at least learn some manners.....you sound like a hurt little boy.

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
MK, I wasn't calling you sensitive.
I don't understand how your "fictional" trade hypotheticals would even hold any merit. Everyone knows the Cubs are trying to sell the team, so why would they even attempt to try to trade for Santana, knowing well-ahead that they won't be able to pay him? This applies to not only the Cubs, but many other teams. Not many teams are going to hinder their own team's future just so they could acquire a one-year rental. If that's your plot to getting more out of either the Yankees or Boston, I will be the first to tell you that they are too smart for that to even work.
As of matter of fact, Twinkies actually did try to get the most talent they could, except nobody was willing to give it to them. The most Yankees agreed to is Hughes and couple of promising prospects. Same type of deal for the Sox I assume.
As for Melky, I don't care how you're going to circumvent the definition of " above average arm" to make yourself look as if you're right, but know this:
Melky has been among the league's leaders in outfield assists. In 2006, his first full year in the Bigs, he racked up 14 assists, tying him for second in the league. In 2007, he led all CF's with 14 assists, plus he added two more during his tenure over in LF. Just for comparison, Grady Sizemore who's on his way to becoming a star in this league equaled just as many assists as Melky did in his first extensive year in the league, except it took Grady the entire 4 years he's been in the Majors to put up the same number. I don't know if that is a canon arm or not, which is not what you said; but actually what you did say, is that he doesn't have an above average arm, which is absolutely incorrect.
If people who watched him more than you say this to you, especially considering the stats seem to back up their stance, I would say these people have a better idea what they're talking about, as opposed to you. No offense, seeing as other's think I insulted you by simply stating the facts.Cost of Super Bowl XLII ticket -$750

Re: Don't be surprised if Johan Santana is a Yankee before the season gets underway.
"I'm not going to be played against the Red Sox. That's not something I'll do. That's not something the Yankees should ever do, and that's I think what they're trying to do now," Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said Sunday. "So if they want the best offer that has been offered to them, then they need to make up their minds."
"We'll see how it goes, but this is not an act. It's not a bluff. It's just reality," he said. "Because as much as I want Santana, and you can make that clear -- for his sake, to know that I do want him -- but the fact is that I'm not going to play the game. We've made them the best offer. And at this point, it's not going to get any better. So they can decide. At this point, it's up to them. I don't think they want to lose us in this thing, obviously. Nobody wants to lose the Yankees in a negotiation."
"We need to get things straightened out, and not wait around for them to run back to Boston and back to us, and then back to Boston," he said. "I'm not going to do that."Colorado Avalanche (NHL)
