I completely butchered the start of that post. It was supposed to be "Every year single year he has pitched in both the bullpen and as a starter he wasn't gotten proper run and defensive support." That's what happens when you're watching sportscenter and cooking at the same time.

So add it as you may. We're still only talking about one year, really. Please don't give me this "6 spot starts is a good indication as to how well he will pitch as a starter" garbage.

You hate the guy? Good. Enjoy watching him this year.

I think he's a pretty good setup guy... I wonder if they will slip Pelfrey into this role though

I like this rotation:

1- Santana
2- Pedro
3- Perez
4- Maine
5- El Duque

that's a decent one, plus you have Pelfrey around in case Orlando goes down

Joe Benigno made a very interesting point awhile ago regarding the Hernandez brothers... It was very funny, but at the same time I was like, "Hmmm....." He said that it's funny how Duque looks like he's in great shape, takes care of himself, but always manages to tweak something that will land him on the disabled list... Livan, on the other hand, looks like he just rolls off the couch every fifth day after downing all sorts of junk food and stuff, yet he eats innings in addition to buffets... Go figure.

thats would have been a good rotation 5-6 yrs ago but i think its a bit much to expect pedro to be a #2 starter anymore and hernandez is just to breakable.

#1 you're wrong. Heilman did NOT pitch at any time as a starter in 2006 or 2007. And stop making excuses for him about this 'routine' stuff....after all of this time in the majors, it's his JOB to get with the program aka the routine. That's what he's paid for. And you know what? Whenever they do trade his ***, I sure as hell won't miss him. His WHIP can be 1.00...menas nothing when you give up too many big hits in too many wrong situations....,

Every single year he has pitched in both the bullpen and as a starter. You can throw up stats until your fingers are tired but that doesn't hide the fact that as a major league pitcher, if you aren't in a routine it's extremely difficult to become comfortable.

The Mets have pretty much always used him as a spot starter and you can't point to too many guys who are successful that way. You can't take someone, work with them as a long reliever then just throw them in a start. His first year up he started the most games and his numbers have consistently been better every year.

And don't just point to his ERA. His WHIP has hovered round 1.2 the last three year.

We can point to stats all day... I would think you of all people know that they are not the defining factor on a point such as this.

I totally agree with you....

I think Pelfrey is garbage and nowhere near ready to be a big leaguer. I remember seeing a stat somewhere that he generates among the fewest swings and misses in the majors. I think his career is in the pen honestly. I was a bigger fan of Humber, who I think has a much better feel for pitching than Pelfrey.

I was kinda hoping Pelfrey was going to Minny instead of Humber to be honest. I think Humber is going to be a very nice pitcher. In fact, I'm going ot be pulling HARD for all the guys we sent. Guerra is a guy who I think might be a stud. Gomez is a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Humber is underrated and will be, IMHO, a solid #3. Mulvey is also unheralded, but he's precisely the type of pitcher the Twins love.

All in all, I've learned never to doubt the Twins. If they like prospects, they're probably going to be pretty good.

Rod you really have to start reading the entire thread before you reply....

Quoting post after post can get a bit annoying, especially when the conversation has moved past that point.

It's not an excuse. Any athlete will tell you the same thing. If it wasn't true, players wouldn't do the same exact things every single time they bat up, every single time they take a lead... you see it in every sport.

Take a guy out of his element and you have to give him time to adjust. Some players do it better than others.

Funny how none of you were ripping Heilman the first half of '06. This is exactly why NY gets a bad rap for tossing players to the wolves.

The Twins are a joke for not trying to resign Santana...it is not like they didn't have the cash...

But if you are going to trade the guy, why did they trade him so cheaply?

My thinking is that they waited too long, and had no chips to play...there was no one to play off against the Mets, so the Mets knew they didn't have to cough up much, knowing that the Twins were too ignorant to resign him...

But still, Minnesota fans have to be very unhappy with what they got.
