I was just on nydailynews.com and its funny hearing the MEts fans post their comments about this deal...Most of them are claiming that the Mets will be going to the World Series already...Premature yes but they do have a good chance of going with Santana. BUt like i said before you never know what can happen in a long baseball season...You never know...Santana might become the second coming of Glavine.

Its also funny that some are saying that the Yanks are done and that the Mets are the "new kings" of New York.

Well, we knew it would be a lot. He's basically in a position to ask for whatever he wants. If they don't pay him now, he'll play this season and become a FA and somebody probably will pay him. i still think the deal gets done though for less than $30 mil

I thought i heard something about if the deal doesn't get done, he could invoke his no trade and go back to minnesota. whether he would want to do that or not i don't know but i heard his agents were threatening to do that.

He doesnt even need to invoke his no trade. The trade is conditional on Santana signing an extension with the Mets. The commish gives them 48 hours to negotiate and if no deal is struck, the trade is off. The deadline is 5pm ET tomorrow.

It's also funny that pretty much every major sports media outlet is saying the same thing about the Mets being top dogs in the NL now.

Glavine was already on the downside of his career. His better days were already behind him. Santana is in his prime right now. The guys you saw posting there, are probably not true baseball fans. Even the biggest Mets fans realize it would take a period of continued success on our part and prolonged absolute suckage on the part of the Yanks to make NY a true "Mets" town. I don't even think NY was a full-fledged Met town in the mid 80s when the Yanks were down and we were successful with Darryl, Doc, Mex, Mookie and the Kid and Co.

A lot can happen but on paper I definitely think it makes them the top team in the NL. They won 88 games last year and added the best pitcher in baseball. You have to figure he's worth at least 5-10 wins.

So if nothing gets done by the deadline, does that set up a really awkward return for Santana to the Twins? What if he ends up pitching for them this year? That'd be strange.

on a side note, what happens if they dont get the deal done by 5 and the trade never goes through? huge backlsh really? im sure press would be all over it but really the trade is contingent upon this so are the mets really that much up against the wall? its not much different than the twins making the mets include fernando martinez and the mets saying no thanks. now the mets can say no thanks to a 160M debt.
