Yeah, they were found out crying poverty in the late 90s, early 2000s. The owners of these teams are raking it in, and not putting it back into the team. The Twins are one big example. Now they're getting a new stadium built for them with taxpayer's money. Baseball is one profitable business indeed.

well, I give good ol' Steinny credit - there are other owners in the league with deeper pockets, but he is one of only a handful that puts his money back into the team.. say what you will about him, but at least he wants to win (or tries to).. Others are more interested in lining their own wallets..

i agree, pittsburgh jumps out at me as well as most other bottom rung teams. whats funny though is how well off most of the bottom rung teams farm systems are yet the second these guys come up and do anything in the big leagues they are being dealt at the trade deadline or offseason trade rumors.

It really is getting pathetic. I am wondering if we will even noticeably increase our payroll when our new stadium opens in 2010. I have my doubts.

So what are the odds that the Mets actually sign him?

ESPN Radio in NY just said Santana is asking for 6 years/$30 million per.

I dunno about that, I honestly can't blame the Mets if they refuse to do that deal.

This makes the mets look stupid for either not knowing what santana would want, or making the trade anyways when they are thinking about not paying it.

Well, we knew it would be a lot. He's basically in a position to ask for whatever he wants. If they don't pay him now, he'll play this season and become a FA and somebody probably will pay him. i still think the deal gets done though for less than $30 mil

I agree..It will prolly be for less but the Mets will prolly throw in more with incentives..Almost what the Yanks did with Arod.
