My thinking is that they waited too long, and had no chips to play...there was no one to play off against the Mets, so the Mets knew they didn't have to cough up much, knowing that the Twins were too ignorant to resign him...

But still, Minnesota fans have to be very unhappy with what they got.

It either that or let him walk for nothing!!

Gomez is no slouch. He is a solid prospect. Huge, hella fast, and strong. He is going to chew up that Minny outfield.

Exactly...for those who have NEVER seen him, but want to cast judgement, slow down....

He's very young and somewhat raw at this stage, but he IS EXCITING. He has a STRONG arm, he's FASTER than Jose Reyes (that's no small feat) and he CAN PLAY defense.

His big weakness is hitting breaking balls--which many players have a problem with. He did say the other day that while playing winter ball, he's been making the adjustment to breaking pitches. and there were some occasions in the outfield where his rouets were questionable, but his speed more than made up for it. The man will be just fine.

Trust me, you see Gomez one time and you will love this young man. I didn't want to see him go because we here in NYC were trated to some of who special he could be....

Agreed, but Shea Stadium has a knack for destroying career hitters; see George Foster, Kevin McReynolds, Bobby Bonilla,Mo Vaughn, Sean Green (to a lesser extent). Young players really struggle to hit at that park so I wouldnt hold it against him for not crushing the ball in 07. Besides he is more of a spray hitting speedy OF. Maybe he can be a Tori Hunter type in the future but he definitely has the frame to be a power guy.

That is true...and to the detrators, I would say to them, two words: Alex Rios

Sometimes, and there's no guarantee in Gomez' case, but sometimes it takes a few years to show consistent power. In Rios' case, there was talk of trading him becasue some thought that for his build, he should have shown more power, early on. But that's not always the way it's SUPPOSED to be.

In High School I too hit a bomb. 410 Feet down the left field line. I dont doubt you can hit it to dead center at Shea. The question is: Can you hit it to the Dead Center Warning Track at Shea against Major League Pitching.

I agree...like many who have blogs, the guy is an ******* for starters. His second issue is that he's from Philly and/or is a Phillies fan. We know that there are many decent, bright Phillies fans, but this ***, represents the gutter coing out of Philly.

His other issue is that he writes with the hopes of getting a rise out of the thoughtless folks who (and this is the scary part) BELIEVE what this jerk writes.

But that's ok. At the end of the day, nothing he say matters one iota.

We should all give him a break. He did write this, "if Santana joins the long list of free agents who come to New York and struggle at the beginning", therefore it is clear that he has something preventing him from understanding the simple concept of how Johan was acquired, let alone write a coherent well thought out article.
