He's easily my favorite active player, and I say yes. I agree that he'll get the nod because of his stats being "clean." Also, he's been hurt some as well, both missing time and playing through it, so if he stays healthy, I believe he'll cement his place in a few years.

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
Dale Murphy didn't win the World Series. Chipper has the ring, the MVP, and was straight robbed of the Gold Glove last year. Kirby Puckett didn't have "the numbers" to get in either but they were good enough when coupled with the ring, the Gold Gloves, and he of course was robbed of the MVP in '92 when it was given to a pitcher which shouldn't be allowed because pitchers already have their own MVP trophy called the Cy Young award.Comment

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
And with this we reach the real problem of the steroid era: who do we compare the clean players to?
Assuming Jones was clean, many of you are saying that his numbers don't stack up compared to players of this era, many of whom were on steroids, and thus he does not get in.
Yet, if we compare his numbers to those from players in the 60's, 70's, and 80's he is a near shoe-in.
So, where do we draw the line?Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
I think he's borderline right now. A couple or few more years of building up his counting stats, and he'll be in. He also seems to have the favor of sportswriters, which will help him out (like Smoltz, who I'm a little surprised is so widely considered such an absolute slam dunk HOF'er - not that I disagree, though).Comment

George Brett or Wade Boggs would be my guess.
Chipper gets into the hall of fame, but whether he can make it to Cooperstown without injuring himself is another story.PSN:BrrbisBrrComment

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
For those who didn't figure it out the first stat line was Ken Griffey Jr's. Is it a good comparison? Not really but I basically did it for people like STPO who don't think he's close to being a HOF'er. I was just trying to show how good those numbers are, especially for a 3rd baseman.Comment

He's a hair away from being borderline. He needs some more counting stats IMO.Comment

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
I'm gonna say no on Chipper being a Hall of Famer. A great player who enjoyed a great career, but unless he has four or five incredible seasons, I don't think he makes it. At some point we have to draw the line, if we let everybody in like Chipper then I think the HOF loses some of its luster.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?
Most of the people saying "no" aren't taking position into account. If Chipper had played LF for his entire career, then no, his current numbers aren't HOF-worthy. Since Chipper's played 80+% of his games at 3B (not to mention he's a switch hitter), he'll get in easily, assuming his production doesn't fall off a cliff over the next couple seasons.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
