      Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?

I remember Cal Ripken, Jr's ceremony was broadcasted live on ESPN I believe.
I remember that day, me, my mom and my grandma were all watching and my grandma says "Do they usually do something like this?"
I turned and told her "No, only the true, special players get this sort of recognition."

I remember back in the late '90's think Chipper was a great player, and back then never realized he would become one of the best 3B to ever play the game.

A lot of guys I watched play as I grew up in the '90's and early '00's ended up being HOFers or near HOFers that I never thought would. I never thought Biggio would get to 3,000 hits, never thought Thome would get over 600 homeruns.
And then guys that looked to be locks ended up not really coming "close". Juan Gonzalez was one example, Jeff Bagwell another.
      Funny how things play out.

The RealCJ10 is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. Over 400HRs, over 1500RBIS and over 2000 hits. Heck yes he is. OH I forgot to mention a career .300 BA and with one team my Braves. I'm there tonight @ the Ted....

They did what now? Did this happen under the nose of the Player's Union?

I don't think these guys ever restructured their contracts. I agree with the rest.

            Yes, Chipper did:

              Re: Chipper Jones a HOF'er?

Didn't Jeter bitch and cry about wanting a certain amount of money during his last free agency period until the Yankees caved? I remember some NY paper posted a picture of Jeter in a Red Sox uniform.

              EDIT- Here it is:

Yes. That newspaper posted that because he was bitching and crying, and not because they wanted to sell papers.

Why didn't he just sign for 3/45 then? That is clearly an overpayment for a guy his age, especially when he can't field his own position at even an average level.

He wanted what he could get. He knew he could get more, so he kept trying to do so. Doesn't really matter either way, but that picture had nothing to do with whether or not he was bitching and crying, and everything to do with the fact that he is Derek Jeter and was a free agent.

Funny how some players get stuck with 'roids rumours and some don't. I met both Bagwell and Jim Thome in 1999. If one was indeed on the juice at the time while the other was merely "country strong", you coulda fooled me.

As I've said before, at some point someone "clean" who's been elected to the HoF will later be found to have been doping, to much tweeting and hand-wringing. Once that happens, Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, Manny, Pudge, Bagwell, and Piazza are going in. Probably McGwire and Sosa as well. Palmeiro doubtful, Juan Gone never.

I think all these guys should be in the Hall of Fame. There was no test at the time and now people want to cry & moan about their numbers.

When Hank Aaron shows up at your ceremony in your home stadium to hear your farewell speech, I think you're going to the HOF.

Crazy to think he played on all those great teams that won so many division titles and were pretty much in the playoffs every year and he only has one ring to show for it. That was his rookie year too.
