Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
"terrible", "awful", "worthless", "garbage", "pathetic", "unbelievably bad", and "horrific" would all be better adjective choices. I doubt there is a shortstop in the league with less range than Jeter.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
the Yankees would not be such a winning team if they had a "poor defending" shortstop, especially with as many contact, groundball pitchers as they've had.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
then why did you rank him at #2 on your list? Defending is the most important thing a shortstop does.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Really? I thought it had something to do with scoring more runs than any team in baseball over the past 6 years.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
You say defense is the most important thing a SS does, but I would rather have a guy contribute 60 runs of value on offense and give up 15 or so on defense (which is really bad), then a SS contributing 30 runs on offense and saving 10 on defense. I'm looking for overall value.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
What? Did you just start watching MLB last season?
The Yankees have had good offenses, but the key to their most successful seasons in the latest era have been pitching and defense.
Over the last two seasons the Yankees have scored 141 more runs than any other team. That's a good way to win games.
In fact, before the most seasons even start, the Rangers should know they have no chance to contend. They sell a lot of tickets though.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Texas has scored more runs than the Yankees once in the past 8 years. Recently it hasn't even been close. I don't see why you want to compare the two.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Yankees AL ERA ranks.
2007: 8th
2006: 7th
2005: 9th
2004: 6th
Yankees AL runs scored ranks.
2007: 1st
2006: 1st
2005: 2nd
2004: 2nd
Made the playoffs each year.
They aren't doing it with pitching and defense. They are doing it by scoring a bunch of runs.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
Most years, Texas's season is over before the season even starts because they load their team up with offense and dont have pitching and defense.
I don't see why you want to compare the two.
they arent similar. NY hasnt been one dimensional, Texas has.Last edited by ZB9; 02-12-2008, 05:48 PM.Comment

Re: Top 10 shortstops in MLB?
problem with the rangers offense is they have a bunch of overrated hitters (blalock, micheal young) and even for a couple years tex was kind of overrated. i don't think it was ever that close if you ballpark adjust it all.Comment
