Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
I just don't feel like Fontenot is ready to be an everyday playerComment

Carrie Muskat says that Cubs won't be dealing DeRosa.
my comments in bold:
Smokescreen if you ask me. To get the price up for him. Teams do this all the time. Leak out false information to drive up the price.

Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
I am not sure this would do the Cubs much good. Losing DeRosa is no little thing for that lineup.
I love the idea of adding an arm like Peavy, but they still have too many problems at the plate. And DeRosa is about their most consistent threat at the plate, not to mention their MVP, imo.
Lose Derosa...who plays 2b? Fontenot? Who can play RF and LF when Soriano sucks or is hurt or When Fukudome doesn't pan out again? Who can also back up at 3rd and 1st? A player like DeRosa cannot be underestimated.
Are they clearing room for Hoffpauir to be the backup COF/1B? Can Fontenot be everyday?
Edit: I say trade Soriano and his, what, 2 Months of production? Not to mention that bogus contract.
No one is going to take Soriano after the season that he had last year."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
I'd make the move for Peavy. Even if it means trading DeRosa. I think Fontenot could be an adequate 2B. I've also heard that once the deal is made and the Cubs go and get that LH OF'er (Milton Bradley, Raul Ibanez, Bobby Abreu have been the FA's mentioned and a guy like Jeremy Hermida has been mentioned in trade talk). They will also go out and get a veteran RH hitter to be that backup IF'er. The name I've heard is Rich Aurilia.
Before you groan...he had a pretty decent year last year and all you are needing him to do his hit against LH pitching. He can play all 4 IF positions and has played some corner OF before. Not a terrible glove...whatever he can get to, he'll knock down although his range is not what it once was.Comment

Milton Bradley can be scratched from that list, in my opinion that guy will kill the clubhouseComment

Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
Cubs deal for Peavy is DEAD...according to Kevin Towers. Says Cubs pulled out of deal. Cubs focusing on getting a LH bat and for pitching may go after Randy Johnson:

Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
Randy Johnson? Seriously, if your going waste money on a player for a year, go after Ben Sheets then.
Oh and no deal is ever dead, I fully expect Peavy to be in a Cubs uniform come April.Comment

Re: Where Will Jake Peavy Land?
It won't happen. This is about money. Cubs do this just about every year.
They did it with Beltran, they did it with Brian Roberts last year and they did it again this year with Peavy.
I'm starting to think this organization likes to **** with the fan base. It's actually getting to a point where I'm actually starting to despise this team.Comment
