Why don't we start with favorite to win the NL Central and start from there.

After all, they are the Cubs.

The Phils getting DeRosa in this deal is awesome!

Are the Angels still in the talks for Peavy or is that out the window already?

          Now it might not happen.

Typical ****ing Cubs. All talk, no action. They pulled the same crap with Carlos Beltran a few years ago. Carlos was basically shouting from the mountain tops...."TAKE ME!!" What the the Flubs do?? They undercut him. Which is what this franchise does.

I am not sure this would do the Cubs much good. Losing DeRosa is no little thing for that lineup.

I love the idea of adding an arm like Peavy, but they still have too many problems at the plate. And DeRosa is about their most consistent threat at the plate, not to mention their MVP, imo.

Lose Derosa...who plays 2b? Fontenot? Who can play RF and LF when Soriano sucks or is hurt or When Fukudome doesn't pan out again? Who can also back up at 3rd and 1st? A player like DeRosa cannot be underestimated.

Are they clearing room for Hoffpauir to be the backup COF/1B? Can Fontenot be everyday?

Edit: I say trade Soriano and his, what, 2 Months of production? Not to mention that bogus contract.

I agree, losing DeRosa would suck quite a lot out of this team, he can play almost everywhere and like you I think he was the Cubs MVP this past season.

We'd be lucky to have someone take Soriano with all the money owed to him, and his piss poor post season preformance the past 2 seasons.

If the Cubs deal DeRosa there is a very good chance they will sign Orlando Hudson to play 2B.

The Cubs have been rumored to be interested in Bobby Abreu to play RF which would move Fukudome to CF for which they have Reed Johnson as backup.

Hoffpauir probably does figure in the Cubs plans so that could be a yes.

The Cubs are also losing Ronny Cedeno in the deal so i imagine they will try to land another utility infielder who can backup at 3B/SS.

I heard a possibility in RF might be Milton Bradley.

Lou said he plans on platooning Fukudome and Johnson in center next year, but the cubs would have to get a right fielder for that to happen because I don't see anyone on the team right now that they'd go with if they didn't acquire a RF. I could see Hoffpauir getting a chance in right, but I think the cubs will try hard to get someone that's proven.

You're right. But 99 of his 126 games played were as a DH.

Cubs getting Peavy is/would not be the end of the world.

They have wholes, like every team....

Adding another 9 million dollar player while not subtracting from the payroll could hurt their chances of selling the team, Imo.

Heard this on Waddle and Silvie on ESPN 1000 about 30 minutes ago:

                              Levine just called in:

Here's how the deal would go down:

DeRosa to Philadelphia for LHP JA Happ

Happ, Josh Vitters, Kevin Hart, and Jason Marquis (and half of his contract) to San Diego for Jake Peavy

also the Cubs are working on a trade to get a LH OF.

Levine says no deal yet...but talks are starting to get more focused
