    HoF ballot released...

    • Harold Baines
    • Jay Bell
    • Bert Blyleven
    • David Cone
    • Andre Dawson
    • Ron Gant
    • Mark Grace
    • Rickey Henderson
    • Tommy John
    • Don Mattingly
    • Mark McGwire
    • Jack Morris
    • Dale Murphy
    • Jesse Orosco
    • Dave Parker
    • Dan Plesac
    • Tim Raines
    • Jim Rice (final year of eligibility)
    • Lee Smith
    • Alan Trammell
    • Greg Vaughn
    • Mo Vaughn
    • Matt Williams

Not an appeasing bunch by any means.. Henderson gets in, and maybe Blyleven.. (outside shot maybe of Rice), but I don't see anyone getting the votes needed to get in.

Same here but I think he deserves it.

Possible.. my only question would be this: how much of his career was aided by performace enhancers? Would he have had the same overall career stats?

Those types of things creep into your mind.

Henderson's a no-doubter, the rest are up in the air.

I think Rice finally gets in.

Finally? That's assuming he belongs in the first place, which is highly questionable.

I have yet to read a pro-Rice argument that doesn't center around the phrase "he was feared."

Why Jack Morris is not in the HOF I'll never understand.

Not saying I agree with it, but he was so close last year, so I figure he'll get a few extra votes to put him over the hump considering it's his last year of eligibility.

Ah, nevermind then. I agree, he's too close now with too much momentum not to get over the hump this year.

Because he's patiently waiting for the voters to correct their mistake of ignoring Blyleven for all these years.

Though I think Morris comes up a little short, he's another guy that relies too heavily on anecdotes to cover up a lot of mediocrity in his numbers.

Henderson gets in without a doubt. Most complete leadoff hitter in the history of the game.

Rice probably gets in. Like already mentioned, he was close last year, and writers may decide to let him in now that it's his last year. Still, I have my doubts.

I would put Blyleven in there, finally, but with the way these voters are, I will assume some will leave him off because they wouldn't want Henderson, Rice, and Blyleven to get in together in one ballot.

Raines will probably have to wait till next year but he needs a lot of support because once Henderson gets in, he'll be compared and that could cost him in the future.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

The flip side to this is if Rice gets in it could make it easier for Raines, because he *should* be viewed as the better player.

Similar career OPS+, superior defensive value, vastly superior value on the bases. Raines over Rice shouldn't even be a question, but unfortunately he wasn't "feared."
