Kotsay doesn't have the power to be a true number 3 hitter. They would be better off with him hitting 2nd, Klesko 3rd, maybe Nady and then Nevin to protect him.

I agree, but lets see how Nady does after the leagues pitchers adjust to him. Thats gonna be the key. How many young hitters have we seen come out hot, and then the league adjusts to them, and they never perform again. Kevin Maas anyone??

I really like Nady's stroke, and think he's gonna be a good one, but it's too early to put him in the 4 spot. Let's see how he does through the first 80 or so games.

Nady also has to adjust to pitcher's this year... pretty tough.

Very true, but Gwynn will admit he wasn't a 3 anyway. Gwynn was the prototype 2 man. The only reason he hit 3rd was because for years they never had a good guy to put in the three hole. But remember, Shefield hit 3rd as did Caminiti, those guys belonged in the spot. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say Kotsay won't end up with 3,000 hits and end up in the Hall Of Fame.

Trust me..unloading Nevin would be great for this team. He's not gonna be the 40 HR guy he was 2 years ago..which means he will be a guy that strikes out way too much and is a liability on defense. If we can get some good pitching for him...I'm all for it. Maybe a return to Anaheim is in the cards? Who knows..

And sorry...Klesko is not Vaughn (in his prime). Klesko is not a 40-50HR guy.

I kind of agree with you on this one. But the rule in baseball is pitching is always ahead of hitting. Once they get a book on him and start adjusting defenses to him things will change. But the reverse can also be true. Once he gets a book on many of the pitchers in the league, sees them a couple time, it could be look out NL. I know this maybe wishful thinking, but the kid just has something, you can tell by watching him. He has a ton of confidence right now, but we'll have to see how he reacts when he hits his first rough patch.

Guess you missed the point huh? Where is Vaughn right now? Where is Klesko right now? Tell me who you would rather have? Hell I may even see Greg on Sundays playing softball since he's from this area. By the way, between the ages of 28-31 Vaughn hit 95 homers and Klesko hit 106 homers. Vaughn only hit over 40 homers 3 times; the year he split time between Mil and SD, 1998 and 1999 in Cincy. Now I don't see Ryan pounding 95 HR's the next 2 years, but I do see him hitting around 60. But he will also hit for a better average, drive in as many runs and create more scoring chances with his legs. It's not about how many you jack out of the yard, it's about putting runs on the board and Klesko is just as good or better than Vaughn. So, I'll go with Ryan in his prime rather than Vaughn in his rather short prime.

Yeah Klesko has been hovering around the .290 to .300 mark also. Vaughn never did that either. Klesko is better on the basepaths too.

But to be fair, when Cammy and Gwynn were banged up in 98 and the Pads were shuffling a little bit, Vaughn absoluely carried them for about a month and a half. I guess my point is, I don't want to slight what Vaughn did for the orginization.

I agree about Nady. You see how compact his swing is. If you can generate that kind of power out of a short compact stroke like that, your generally in good shape.

Xavier Nady's swing is good. He'll do good this season, but he'll have a high number of K's on him not because of swinging on bad pitches and all, but he's facing most of these pitchers for the first time... and vice versa.
