          Another horrible contract by JP........

Rios has the lowest Baseball IQ of any player. The SABR community is high on his D, but from watching almost every inning I would disagree. He misplays routine fly balls and some of his throws are way off line.

The OF is set once Snider gets called up so I would punt Rios. There's always the chance Rios goes back to being the 06 version of Rios but I would rather let another team pay him and see if it happens.

The last thing Texas needs is another guy who can't get on base, and swings at everything. As a Texas fan, I'm tired of seeing Kinsler, Hamilton, Jones, Byrd, etc swing at bad pitch after bad pitch, and it would just get worse if Rios was in the lineup...plus, Texas doesn't have room for Rios, and doesn't have the money.

I'd be so pissed if Jon Daniels decided to go after him.

              A couple things here.

              1. As you know I hate JP as much as the next guy but let's put some perspective to this, the Rios contract was a good one when it was initially signed. Rios was a guy on the rise and the Jays did well to lock him up long term. In retrospect, there were signs of Rios' lack of baseball IQ and rather laisez faire attitude to the game but it was hidden by the upside he possessed. I clearly remember EVERYONE praising JP for locking Rios up so let's not cry about it because he turned into a pumpkin.

              2. I agree about the OF though I wonder if the Jays will experiment with Lind or Snider playing some 1B next season as we all know Lyle Overbay only has one more year left on his contract and well, he isn't exactly the prototypical 1B offensively.

Toronto has to let him go if he was claimed. Letting Wells go allows them to reconsider keeping Halladay.

The White Sox acquired Rios today. It looks like the Jays just dumped him on the White Sox without getting anything in return.

Jeez, I know he had a relatively big contract but I just can't think of any situation in which giving up a potential 5-tool player is a good idea. He may never be quite the player we all think he can be, but I still think if you waited until the winter meetings you might have at least got a prospect or something back from it.

I look at it this way, the Jays can now use that money that they were going to pay Rios to address team needs. Rios will be Chicago's problem now with his underachieving and sometimes boneheaded play. The Rios contract will be an albatross to them.

Yep, let the White Sox deal with paying him $12.5 million/year from 2011 thru 2014.

And the Jays couldn't wait till the winter meetings to dump him, Rios had a full no-trade clause coming into effect after this season.

The right move to make...IMO, they should really consider keeping Halladay now.

I think it's pretty much a certainty that the Jays will throw as much money as they can for Roy. It's up to the GM (whoever it may be) to put the pieces together in the offseason though.

Rios to the White Sox and the Jays get absolutely Nothing for him.

I know Jays fans wanted to get rid of him and are more than likely happy he is gone but for nothing?. Not even a player to be named later?. The Jays better lock up Halladay long term after this because even though Rios may not have been worth the money Ricciardi gave him he is still a serviceable player that they could have gotten something for at some point.

I still think that JP has to go!!!! His great plan has not lead to anything yet, except other teams getting better.
We paid big money for a couple guys and where are they now:

Lyle Overbay -- Good defensive 1B man, very lacking in the offensive area froa 1B man
Troy Glaus--traded for Rolen--traded for nothing
                                BJ Ryan --broken
AJ Burnett -- winning a ring in NY

He's had his chance, now lets move on.

And letting Rios go........well its a good financial move if they use the money for something good.
