His OPS has been putrid since the start of the 2011 season...not one over .700.
He's a HOFer with or without the 3,000 hits, but I'm guessing that's the only reason why he's sticking around at this point.

Seeing as it is the baseball HOF and not American baseball HOF, he technically has 3000 hits.

Knowing Seattle's luck, he'll go in as a Yankee or Marlin.

Technically, Sadaharu Oh has 868 home runs. It's the National (ie, American) Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. NPB is a respectable league, but it's not MLB.

Wouldn't it be the other way around? And technically it is the National baseball Hall of Fame.

No one really cares what he did in an AAAA league 8,000 miles away.

He's an aloof-enough guy that I can imagine him not representing any particular team.

Gun to my head: he'll go in as a Mariner.

Seriously though, he's a slam dunk first ballot Hall of Famer.

We have had this one before but feel we should revisit him.

David Ortiz. IMO the most intriguing case of getting in or not. Has the DH thing against him, some using his words, bull**** failed test that he doesn't know what he failed the test for. But you look at his stats both in the regular season and postseason. Over 500 HR's, 1600 RBI's, 2300 hits, .925 OPS in the regular season. And in the postseason 17 HR's, 60 RBI, 87 hits, .962 OPS in 82 postseason games.

And you can't argue that he shouldn't get into the HOF with those numbers. Like if he plays first and has no cloud around his name for roids he is a first ballot guy along the likes of Pedro, Johnson, Maddux.

Yeah, I get that the voters don't think DH is a legit position (and I'm with them to a certain extent), but they could at least look at guys who were far and away the best DHs of their decade (or more) and give them a look. Give Ortiz and Edgar a chance. They ignore horrible defending from first basemen who are excellent hitters all the time, so it's not like fielding your position is vital anyways.

I agree, but I think Ortiz gets in first because of the "rings bro" argument.

That, and he leads every DH ever in hits, HRs, and RBIs which is what DHs are for.
