So is calling a game as a catcher given too much credence? It's "easy" to substantiate a catcher's value with SB% (catch stealing), offensive stats, even pickoffs. But what about calling a game?

Ultimately, the burden falls on the pitcher but I believe the manager places the burden of trust to the catcher to "advise" of the best pitch in a certain situation.

Some pitchers know what they want to throw and it doesn't matter what the catcher thinks (Maddux comes to mind)...meanwhile some pitchers rely on the catcher quite much, as you hear several SPs say they rarely shake off Yadi.

I don't ask specifically to you or in a facetious tone but rather out of curiosity. Yadi's best known calling card, in my mind, is game calling...I'm curious how much weight should a catcher be given if they're good at that sort of thing.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Yeah fWAR doesn't take into account Yadi's framing and game calling. He's probably a borderline candidate but not at all a sure thing.

Best hitting catcher of all time? Nope, not at all...

As SF said best hitting catcher of all time. And if you are referring to the steroid allegations, still no. I would be voting for Bonds and Clemens as well.

Nope, sure, there have been whispers but he was never caught and honestly he was always a big boy. He's the best hitting catcher of all time and we shouldn't look for things that aren't necessarily there.

still waiting on my man sweet Lou whitaker to get in. Frank White and Willie Randolph deserve more than a cursory glance. Whitaker White and Willie were to secont base in the eighties what Jeter Nomar and ARod were to short in the nineties and beyond

Whitaker and Trammell should both be in. What an outstanding middle infield Detroit had all those years. For 15+ years those two were on double play patrol and were more than handy enough with a bat for their positions. Very underrated guys with 70+ WAR each.

I can count now 3 times since he was elected in 2011 that I thought Robbie Alomar wasn't in the HOF and I was surprised he was already voted in.

                    Boy, time flies.

It's amazing how richly talented those late 90s Cleveland teams were, yet never won a WS.

Guinea pigs don't win Nobel Prizes, scientists do.

In this case, Tommy John is just a Guinea pig, Dr. Frank Jobe is the scientist.

Probably going to finish with ~55-60 career WAR, which is where a lot of not-quite-good-enough guys fall: Joey Votto, David Wright, Robinson Cano, Dustin Pedroia

If anyone one as of now from this list I would have to say Beltran, his post season numbers especially that one year where he went bonkers with HR's might be enough to close the gap on his career numbers even though my instincts put him in the Hall of really good players, other then that the rest still have a lot to do IMO
