Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
OK, fair point. I agree it would be over-the-top vindictive to hold that one event against Delgado in the context of his playing career. I just didn't know if you meant to insinuate that the anthem hijinx didn't actually happen by saying it was "delusional" of people.
I would definitely consider Delgado to be a borderline candidate and I waffle back and forth on him.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I'm sure it's been brought up, but do you guys think Edgar EVER gets in? Sure, he didn't lead the Ms to the WS but he's been a key catalyst in all four of their postseason appearances. He was clutch in the postseason, just could never make it to the WS. He has the 2nd highest WAR behind first-ballot HOF Ken Griffey Jr.
I'd just really like to see him get in, even though I was like 7 when he retired. He's my 2nd favorite all-time favorite Mariner (behind Norm Charlton, another guy I wasn't even alive) and it would be great to see him in. I think he deserves it. The numbers speak for themselvesComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Edgar got walks/doubles instead of home runs/RBIs, was a DH, didn't have a long career by HOF standards, and got overshadowed by more famous faces in Seattle.
There's nothing wrong with having high standards for DHs since they're not adding any value in one entire component of the game, so you have to be a pretty special hitter to merit induction. Martinez was absolutely that special hitter, though. Too bad the people who cast the ballots don't realize it.
He's actually backslid (from an already low % of the vote) since he first appeared on the ballot, so yeah, I doubt he ever gets in.I write things on the Internet.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
If Carlos Delgado was even an average defensive player he's got a good argument...as it is, he was one of the worst defensive players of all time. He's in the HOF of very good, IMO."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
It's just that the Mariners have had 1 HOF Manager (for only three seasons lol) and 4 HOF players (with Randy Johnson being the best but he has his ARI cap and was better there. Goose Gossage, Gaylord Perry and Rickey Henderson only played like 1 or 2 seasons with us and they're the only other guys. I'm really looking forward the Jr's induction but was wondering about GarComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I think Edgar gets in, but only after David Ortiz paves the way for him oddly enough. Ortiz will get in on his fame + stats and people will revisit the DH-only thing about Edgar and put him in since he was a better hitter than Ortiz. It might be the Veteran's Committee, but he'll get in.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
