Going back to Bret Boone's leap in 2001...I mean other than Davey Johnson's 1973 and Brady Anderson's 1996, there are few others with as dramatic of a shift in skill level as that.

Bret Boone was a serviceable MLB player, but his 2001-2003 was oddly different than the rest of his career and at a time he should've been declining. Right at the height of the BALCO stuff, coincidentally.

Here's one player I think has been shafted big time. Any chance Joe Jackson gets in eventually? I realize he was part of the Black Sox stuff in 1919, but out of all the players I think he was guilt by association more than anything, and put up great numbers during that WS, so I doubt very much he was actively throwing games. He also didn't commit an error if I recall. If they let Rose in at some point, they have to let Jackson in as well. Discuss.

They're not going to let him in I don't think because it's been almost 100 years and hasn't happened. Pete Rose agreed to his ban and should never be inducted.

Charlie Hustle goes in before Shoeless Joe, but only after Pete dies.

Does Jim Thome make it in before Jeff Bagwell?

He should be an absolute lock.

He's pretty close to 3,000 hits, so he's a lock IMO.

Should be 100% slam dunk no problem. Elite defense, great offensive numbers, longevity, face of a franchise, etc.

Here's one for thought. If Beltre is a no doubter (I agree that he is), what about Scott Rolen?

He's in imo, good enough hitter, excellent defender.

Scott Rolen? Nah. I forgot that guy existed to be honest. Good player but no way HOF worthy.

Beltre is a lock, Rolen is in the Hall of Very Good.

Very similar players: third baseman with amazing gloves and above-average bats. Main difference is that Beltre was more durable than Rolen and will reach 3,000 hits. Beltre's the better player, but I don't think one should be a lock while the other has no chance.

At first thought Rolen seems like a hovg case, but when you dig deeper you see the hof credentials pop out at you.

With very few third baseman in the hall as it is. Rolen should follow Chipper in.

With HOF weekend here. On the MLBN they had Jay Jaffe from SI (creator of JAWS) on talking about current guys to see how their chances at the HOF were. Brian Kenney brought up Joe Mauer. And according to JAWS which deals with a peak 7 year WAR and career WAR, Mauer is like a top 7 or 8 catcher all time. And better than Yogi Berra. So what are your thoughts on Mauer?
