Re: Red Sox agree to terms with Carl Crawford

I have family that has lived in Tampa for years, so I kind of fell into being a Rays fan...BECAUSE of Crawford...

GREAT player, hard worker, humble guy...

I'm happy he got his due monetarily, but I wish it was somewhere other than a AL East rival AND the Sox, who the Rays played some very heated games against...

With Crawford and Pena (Cubs) and who knows else gone, (not to mention that lousy stadium), I think it's going to impact not just the Rays, but also the best 3 team race in baseball, as well as the city of Tampa...

They have enough trouble getting fans to the Trop with an exciting, winning team, that may be about to take a major step backwards...

Baseball needs to do something to create some semblance of "parity"...

It's a 162 grinder, so having fans know their team is out of it before it even starts is NOT good for the sport as a whole...

Well, baseball is talking about adding more teams to the playoffs. That will help.

It's a lot easier to say there's parity in other league when they allow nearly 50% more entrants into the championship tournament.

Either way, only two teams at most can make the playoffs in the AL East as is. As nerve-racking as it is to know that the Rays have made it a three team division for the time being, I would hate to see them fall back as a competitor.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Hope they keep Ellsbury. Don't what they'll do against lefties but I'm gonna run all over people. And make Dice-K a middle reliever haha.

Agreed. There are "small market" teams just as guilty money hoarding and not using luxury tax revenue.

Oh yeah, Crawford is a pretty good player. That's a pretty big, pretty long contract, but I think he'll be worth it for the most part.

I'm curious too if they'll consider having him play right in Fenway.

Re: Red Sox agree to terms with Carl Crawford

I see Crawford playing left only because of Drew's knowledge of the right field at Fenway. There are some crazy bounces that can happen over there and Drew has the range and intelligence to play that side very well.

Plus, Crawford has shown that he's one of the better visiting outfielders when it comes to playing in front of the Green Monster.

Another horribly paid player. Great player, but he's not worth 20 million, and especially not 5-7 years from now.
