The O's are going to sign him, all the other teams are doing is driving up the price. Tejeda, Palmeiro and Guerrero all have the same agents and they are all going to end up in Balt. No one else has money the O's, they will do what it takes to get him.

Also, they are close to a deal with Ponson.

I think if Vlad were to closely consider a 3yr/30mil offer, several other teams would jump in and offer close to that as well. Those other teams could offer him a better chance to win than the Mets. (Seattle, Boston, NY Yankees, etc.) This could be a ploy by his agents to start a type of "bidding war" and someone will put up a big offer (probably Baltimore) and he will accept. Just a way to try and drive up the price.

Two words: Washington Heights. I'd argue that New York has a larger Dominican population than LA, and this is the only reason that the Mets might even think that their offer could attract Vlad's attention. Vlad is a shy kinda guy, doesn't speak English well, and I'm sure he'd feel right at home in a community full of his countrymen, who would cheer his every movement. This area threw some kinda bash for Sammy Sosa when he hit his 66 homers. Most of the livery cabs in the lower-to-middle class areas are driven by Dominicans, and I remember back in '98, they were counting every home run on their windows.

I don't think the Mets will sign Guerrero, but I do believe the pull of being among his people will hold some weight.

Heh it would be funny if Vlad goes back to the Expos. It seems that testing the market didn't really work out for him and the Expos were the only team that were willing to pay an exorbitant amount of dollars for him. I guess this is what happens when the only major players in the Free Agency game are the BoSox and Yankees.
