Just so you folks stop arguing about inane things and realize the deals currently on the table:

Mets - 3 years, $30 million base, with incentives could eb as high as 5 year, $72 million.

Orioles - 5 year, $67.5 million GUARANTEED MONEY, and reports have them being able to raise that if necessary.

If the Mets get Vladimir Guerrero -- and indications were that they, not the Orioles, were leading the pack Friday night -- they will have perpetrated the steal of the century.

Word was Guerrero and the Mets were closing in on a deal that would guarantee Guerrero the Great $30 million, and if that's true, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon and general manager Jim Duquette should be handcuffed, photographed and fingerprinted for big-league robbery.

Usually, you have to pay for greatness. Yet the Mets appeared to be on the verge of pilfering it.

Several baseball sources painted the Mets as the overwhelming favorite now. Talks with the Orioles were dying, talks with the Dodgers were nonexistent and talks with the Marlins were about far less guaranteed money -- basically pocket change.

Assuming they finalize things, the Mets have transformed themselves into a serious player with one brilliant stroke. Never has a superstar sold himself so low.

                  Get the report right.

The Orioles are looking at Pudge as a back-up plan. Until Vlad is signed one way or another, Pudge is not an option.

Oh, and the Wahsington Post reports at least one Oriole official feels Vlad now wants to play in Baltimore, they are just posturing for more GUARANTEED MONEY.

isn't it funny that montreal was the team to offer the most money, but Vlad turned it down.. well i guess that's what happens when you have MLB controlling the team
