The Cardinals are like the Yankees of the National League.

Re: 9/23 - 9-29 Game Discussion Thread: The Final Week of the Season

Anyone know second tiebreaker after head to head?

The A's are two games behind the RSox for the top seed so obviously they would have to sweep and the Sox would have to lose their last two so we're talking an unlikely scenario but they are tied head to head. How would the top seed be decided if that played out?

        League record? Division record?

I'm sure I could google it but I'm far too lazy to do so at 12:30 because that would involve too much reading.

          Looked it up on Wiki:

          1. The team with the best record in head to head play.
          2. The team with the best overall record in intradivision games.
          3. The team with the best overall record in intraleague games.
          4. The team with the best record in the final 81 games of the season, ignoring interleague play.
          5. The team with the best record in the final 82 games of the season (providing the game added is not between the tied teams), extending backward until the tie is broken (Interleague games are skipped and ignored in this process.)

With the loss tonight the Phillies secured the 10th overall pick. Some saving grace for this awful season.

                Division record, as already noted.

If Oakland won/Boston lost their last two games, the A's would get the AL #1 seed due to better division record (45-31 to 44-32).

Re: 9/23 - 9-29 Game Discussion Thread: The Final Week of the Season

                  Other tiebreaker info:

                  NL #1 Seed

If the Braves and Cardinals finish with the same record, Atlanta wins the tiebreaker. (H2H)

                  NL Wild Card

If the Pirates and Reds finish with the same record, Cincinnati hosts the WC game on Tuesday. (H2H)

                  AL #2 Seed

If the A's and Tigers finish with the same record, Oakland gets home-field advantage. (H2H)

                  AL Wild Card

If the Rays and Indians finish with the same record, Tampa hosts the WC game on Wednesday (or Monday tiebreaker game if Texas clinches the #1 WC).

If the Rays and Rangers finish with the same record, Texas hosts the WC game on Wednesday (or Monday tiebreaker game if Cleveland clinches the #1 WC).

If the Indians and Rangers finish with the same record, Cleveland hosts the WC game on Wednesday (or Monday tiebreaker game if Tampa clinches the #1 WC).

If the Rays, Indians, and Rangers finish with the same record:
a.) Cleveland hosts Tampa on Monday
b.) Texas hosts loser of Monday's game on Tuesday
c.) Monday winner hosts Tuesday winner on Wednesday

Why does Cleveland host Tampa in a 3-way tie but not in a 2-way tie? Because Cleveland has a better combined H2H vs the other two teams. (CLE 7-5, TB 7-6, TEX 5-8)

                    Reds getting their butts kicked....

Even though they will make the playoffs it seems like a disappointing season for them, especially offensively.

Tampa wetting the bed against Toronto is about to change them plans looks like. The difference one series makes.

The Angels are damn near gifting us this series. 1 game away from an improbable comeback that they should be favored in with Yu on the mound. However, it will be all for nothing though if the Rangers fall flat on the run support.

We can't rely on all of these errors tomorrow. We need to go out and tack on some runs and then ride Yu to the playoffs.

Of course the Jays would suddenly start winning now, when they have a shot at a top 10 pick, they suddenly decide to win so they won't get it...

Hopefully the Mets/Brewers split their final 2 games and the Jays lose tomorrow(or if Jays do win tomorrow, whoever wins Mets/Brewers game today wins tomorrow too)

If Indians/Rays/Rangers are all tied after tomorrows games, how will tiebreaker be broken?

                              A mini, makeshift round-robin tournament.

                              Per MLB:

Cleveland would host Tampa Bay to determine one of the wild cards on Monday; the loser of that game would then play at Texas on Tuesday to determine the second wild card.
The two winners would be re-seeded for the wild card game on Wednesday based on season series. Therefore, the Rangers would host the Rays after going 4-3 against them this season, and would be at Cleveland after going 1-5 against them.
                              * If two teams tie for the second wild card, home-field would be determined by the season series and played on Monday. Texas would host Tampa Bay, and be at Cleveland should that scenario unfold. The winner would then travel to the No. 1 wild card destination for a game Wednesday.

Nice to see the Blue Jays making it as difficult as possible for the Rays who they can't beat to save their lives if this series was in Tampa.
