Really puts things into perspective of how long Scully called games for.

When he called his first game, it featured the reigning MVP Jackie Robinson (would be a cool fact too if they handed out the actual trophy during the pregame like they do today).

14 franchises that exist today didnt exist back then. None of those 14 franchises would exist for another decade!

6 of the 16 franchises at the time have relocated since.

So I'm at home eating something before going for a haircut, I tune in on Get Up! for a second (on mute of course) and I see Buster Olney. Like tell me, what does Olney do that Jeff Passan doesn't? I mean, imagine being head of content at ESPN Insider and think Buster fricking Olney brings any value to the equation. With so much turnover at ESPN how do you justify keeping a guy like that? It is like having Shams but also keep Broussard.

I'm more surprised to hear Get Up! have a baseball segment. I'm guessing it has to do with Juan Soto or Vin Scully, though. They wouldn't dare talk about anything else on there. God forbid if I ever see something baseball related on First Take that didn't have to do with trashgate.

That being said, if it has to do with Vin Scully maybe Buster has more connection with him than Jeff ever had.

Maybe, but you ain't keeping Olney around waiting for Scully to die , and they have a (now) bonafide Hall of Famer (Kurkjian) in their roster for those "let me tell you how it was in my time" moments and Buster will never match Tim in the effusiveness/contagious jolliness department.

In 2016 Vin retired from the booth. For MLB 17 The Show, SD Studios created some of Vin's iconic calls as well as others as a salute to some of the greatest calls. Every once in awhile, I play this which I consider this sports opening trailer as GOAT.

Best damn intro to any sports video game

And its funny you mention playing it at certain times as I thought I was the only one. When the changes/transitions of the sport frustrate me, I often play this intro to hear the iconic calls of the sport I adore, to remind me that its the moments of the game within the sport, that make me love baseball so much.

Totally morbid, but I'm sure people will add this to their lists regardless of whether I mention it.

Anyone know how Nick Castellanos is notorious for homering during wrong times?

If not, this video sums a lot of them up:

                  <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PyfJTsP56IY" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Many are reaches regarding timing and this next one will be as well, but he homered today after the evening of Vin Scully's passing. I'm sure he didn't homer while they were eulogizing him or anything, but for it to be his first home run since June 30th is no coincidence in my eyes.

Anyway, the first one is meme-worthy and has been since its existence. Nothing since really holds up to it because of the circumstances of death, but that first one is just comedic gold how people spin off of it.

Random thing I've been thinking of. What happens in the case of a makeup game that was paused after a few innings, but gets replayed a few weeks or months later, and someone who was on one team happened to be traded to the other team.

Could someone such as a pitcher theoretically get the loss AND save in the game?

I believe so. Last year the Mets had a game in April vs Miami get paused after the first inning and it wasn’t finished until after the trade deadline. So Javy Baez ended up getting a hit for the Mets in a game that was officially played April 11 and also got a hit for the Cubs vs the Pirates that same day

Cubs announced they will release Jason Heyward after the season. He will not return from the IL this year so he's played his last game for the Cubs.
