I was reading something and I never realized Dusty Baker invented the high five?

    45 years ago (1977)

It's so weird now such normal/basic gestures like that haven't even been around for way longer.

Dusty was the receiver of the first high-five. I believe Glenn Burke or another Dodgers outfielder was the thrower of the high-five. Regardless, still impressive to be one of the dynamic duo.

Baker was the one to give it.

Burke has his hands up after Baker hit a HR, and Baker didn't know what else to do so he did what would become the high five.

Yep, I was informed the same thing a few years ago. Crazy to think about.

What’s crazier is that the low-five came first by a long shot. Took ‘em 50 years to make it two high.

            Cool piece of trivia.

I also remember the Florida(at the time) Marlins refusing to trade Miguel within the division.

I wouldn't say never, I'd guess there's a hefty premium on trading within the division.

Side note, any shot of Soto pulling an NBA type move and making it known he isn't signing an extension and testing the market regardless of who he is traded to(unless it's the Mets)? I'm sure Boras wants the Mets involved in a contract battle against other teams and we've seen Cohen not shy away from spending.
The Marlins were trying to leverage the Angels and Dodgers against each other for Big Mig, part of the Dodgers package was a prospect named Kershaw. I'm trying to remember all the names being discussed*, the Tigers finally gave in and moved Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin, 2 of the top 5 prospects in the game, but only if Dontrelle came back, and the Marlins were like "sounds good" lol.

*the other names were Matt Kemp, Chad Billinglsey, and Andre Ethier

Didn't work out for the Marlins in the end, but at the time it looked like they finagled the best possible deal, but damn lol hindsight is 20/20 but what a haul that coulda/woulda been

                  Re: MLB Off-Topic

Still a few months left in the season so lots can change but, if things stay the same, could MLB further tweak the playoff format?

Right now, the Twins who lead the central have the same record as the Mariners who are the 3rd WC team.

Similarly in the NL, the NL Central leader is in 5th place.

So the top 2 WC teams are going to face off, the 2nd of which won't get home field advantage despite being the 2nd best team of the 4 teams who will be playing in the WC round, and the best team of all the WC teams reward for finishing as the best is that they get the harder matchup?

I believe the NFL has the same issue with their seedings, but this should change to be more like NBA. The division winner shouldn't be guaranteed a certain seed.

So instead of Rays (1) vs Jays (2), Twins (3) vs Mariners (4), Braves (1) vs Padres (2) and Brewers (3) vs Cards (4) it should just be Rays vs Mariners, Jays vs Twins, Braves vs Cards, Padres vs Brewers.

Are those two headed to Cincy for Castillo?!? Juan Soto is in the lineup right now for the Nationals, so if the two prospects are being traded, I don't think it's part of a Soto package.

I don't understand why anyone would deal with the Yankees.

Name a prospect they have dealt the last 5 years+ that has turned into a star?

They keep their best prospects to even out their spending.

Nothing against Volpe and Dominguez, I wouldn't take the Yankees calls. Ever.

Well, unsurprisingly HoF voters held on to anger and resentment longer than pretty much anyone else, so here we are. There was a time when normal people were mad at guys like Bonds and McGwire in seemingly large numbers, but I don't think that's the case anymore. Now they've either moved on with their lives, or wish baseball was as big of a deal as it was back then.

Give it a few years but Ezequiel Duran might be. Regardless the Yankees got fleeced in that deal.

It was pretty amusing to see the double standard on full display yesterday.

                                Ortiz is revered and celebrated.

Bonds, ManRam, A-Rod are absolutely reviled, will not get in on the BBWA vote, and may even struggle with the Veterans Committee.
