If you adjust for league, era, and park, 1999-2001 Pedro had an ERA and FIP 10% better than Kershaw's from 2014-2016. Kershaw's amazing and all, but he's doing what he's doing in the non-DH league, in a pitcher's park, and in a much friendlier environment for pitchers than when Pedro pitched.

But yeah, this has to be noted too:

      http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kersh...edro-question/

Do the same adjustments for the past 365 days and Kershaw's been just as good as peak Pedro. He's having an all-time season so far this year and might even do the 10 WAR season.

As good as Kershaw is, as has been noted, Pedro did it in a much more difficult environment. I love me some Kershaw, but I'd take Pedro's peak over his.

Both great shots, but this will go unacknowledged lol because Statcast had this one going "448 feet." I'd believe that if they got the first one right. This one came off the bat even faster and had a lower launch angle, and definitely had more backspin.

I'd like to know how Statcast works, exactly...

But why does it matter? You're taken over by proving that a rookie didn't hit a 491 foot home run. Let the kid enjoy the moment. Did your best friend have the longest before that or something?

He's not taking anything away from the kid, he already got credit for the home run and RBI's and probably doesn't give a **** about the distance. He's questioning he methodology used to get to the numbers. They matter for the same reason every other number in baseball matters, he's interested in it, nothing more than that. It's just curious how these numbers come to be because we can see home runs that visually look longer or similar that aren't close in distance based on their statistics. Just playing with numbers.

Yeah, sorry... I know it looks bad that I'm showing all of these other graphs.

No, this isn't any knock on Mazara at all. I'm questioning Statcast, because ESPN and the MLB Network use that for everything. It makes me wonder what else is invalid, because their home run number was off by 40 feet (or 8.3%). That's a big error.

Statcast is very interesting, I was the person who created the first thread on it. I'm intrigued by it, and it shows numbers on the fly. I'm just questioning now how reliable the system is, if I should even trust the numbers at all.

Furthermore, if we were to talk about Mazara, I want him to be recognized for every home run he hits that is equally as impressive, which his most recent home run was. Nobody is going to acknowledge it though because Statcast didn't shout "491 feet" with it as well. Heck, Mitch Moreland won't be recognized for just about an identical blast. Yet as long as Statcast doesn't show another ball past 491 feet this year, MLB Network will say all year that is the farthest hit home run of the season. Yes, I do have a problem with that, and by that you're correct.

I love it though, he went down like a pro.

In a statement accepting his suspension, Byrd said Wednesday that, in 2012, he was was using Tamoxifen "on the advice of a physician for a medical condition resulting from surgery, and I accepted my suspension without challenge."

"Since that time, I have paid close attention to the substances that are banned by the Joint Drug Agreement, as I had no intention of taking any banned substances. I relied upon a medical professional for assistance and advice with respect to the supplements that I was taking. However, certain supplements I was taking were not on the NSF Certified for Sport list, and therefore, I assumed certain risks in taking them.

"When I learned that I had tested positive for Ipamorelin, I retained the services of private counsel and an independent chemist to determine the origin of the Ipamorelin test result because I never knowingly ingested Ipamorelin. After an extensive investigation by my lawyers and an independent chemist, it was concluded that the most likely source of Ipamorelin was a tainted supplement.

"I alone am responsible for what I put in my body, and therefore, I have decided for forgo my right to an appeal in this matter and accept the suspension. I apologize for any harm this has caused the Cleveland Indians, Indians' fans, my teammates, and most importantly, my family."
                      Fully accepting responsibility.

Blaming a tainted supplement could easily be looked at as passing blame to the supplement company, he could be lying. I think we did the same thing with the Royals minor leaguer but I've already seen Melky use this defense and then try to create a website for a fake drug to avoid taking blame. Hate to be a cynic, but I don't believe him. I don't believe anyone anymore. Good on him for taking the suspension without appeal I guess.

                            It's that easy.

Wasn't Byrd messing with Victor Conte (former BALCO) in the last few years? Maybe he was gonna accept this anyway, but when you make that connection is there even a reason to try to appeal and have dirt dug up?

I don't mean to throw shade on him because I actually like him as a player and veteran presence, remember him coming up here with the Phillies, but eating this and having it go away may be best for anyone he may have been in connection with.

I don't think people understand how unregulated supplements are, from the performance stuff down to things as simple as melatonin. A tainted substance is not that unheard of but it always comes off as bogus from an athlete. Heck, Byrd said they took a risk on some stuff knowing it could trigger a positive result.
