I used to be in this same camp but I'd be ok with the DH in the NL now. Interleague play being constant throughout the year almost feels like it's required...NL teams are at a disadvantage when playing in AL parks, much more than the opposite and the records show that.

I'd rather watch a hitter than an automatic out, let's be real. The only thing that would be missed is the double switch and it would allow NL managers to not have to tax their own pen as much since guys could go multiple innings without lineup manipulation.

There is still strategy, SF or CMH outlined that well several months back. It's amazing though such an NL fan like myself has flopped.

Now on the automated strike zone!

I don't know how true any of this is, but given your two numbers, I'd say this much:

If it was voted in five years from now, then it better not come into effect until ten years from now. National League teams are currently not constructed with a DH in mind, contracts and all. You can't just throw it in the next year. You would really have to give them time to work into that mode.

Take Bumgarner for example, since we're talking about him. He adds tremendous value to the Giants roster, or any other NL roster, because if he is their ninth batter and the opposing team doesn't have anybody or has to pinch-hit or what have you, the Giants have an offensive upper-hand in that regard. If they become a DH-based team, his value goes way down now because he cannot hit for himself anymore (though I believe he could play the DH in another situation, but that's not exactly what we're talking about here and that's still not much of an advantage for San Francisco). If the Giants had the wherewithal beforehand to predict that they were going to have to use the DH full-time, his contract might be a bit of a burden compared to what we could have dealt for a DH-type player.

That's my personal thought on the matter, and I don't know if anybody else thinking about this is considering that one bit.

How long did AL teams get to adjust before the rule was enacted?

The last time the NL voted on the matter was 1980, with implementation to begin in the 1982 season. So they were going to give them a couple years to adjust.

              For the record:
4 yes (Braves, Mets, Cardinals, Padres)
5 no (Cubs, Reds, Dodgers, Expos, Giants)
              3 abstentions (Phillies, Pirates, Astros)

And the Cardinals fired their GM for voting yes.

The last time the issue came anywhere even close to a vote was when the Astros joined the AL.

You're fooling yourself if you think an AL team wouldn't pay the same for him just because he wouldn't be able to bat for them every fifth day.

                  That's crazy.

And no, NL teams would have no problem adjusting to a DH and in fact it would be a benefit to their roster building since that's literally what it does instantaneously.

We've seen AL team trade for pitchers that can hit without thought many times over with the contract being the same many times over....

That's not to say that's what I want by the way. I personally like it the way it is.

At most I’d give the NL teams 1 year to get ready (dependent on when the rule is changed). If it’s anytime after Dec 31st of the offseason yes, but before that it’s the upcoming season. You should be able to find some decent hitter (like a Kendrys Morales, Pedro Alvarez, etc) in 2/3 months to be your DH for the upcoming season.

For me it's a bit more than grabbing a piece, it's really about restructuring your team around that idea. That also means convincing fifteen other individuals to possibly devote their careers to that kind of position. I suppose that wouldn't be so hard to do, but it still is another hurdle.

Even still, I'd rather not see it happen.

I'm sure most NL teams have an idea of who'd they make the DH. It's not like they're going to approve the DH and all of a sudden all 15 teams are gonna scramble and panic because they have no idea who on their team is a much better hitter than fielder.

I'm sure jays aren't only team doing this, but I wonder what exactly this new netting will be like. Extending from dugout to dugout and supposed to have better visibility than the current nets.

                              Aaron Hicks is jacked!

I guess he does not want to be the small guy sandwiched between Stanton and Judge.
