They still sucked after that big 2012 offseason, but at least they tried. And it did lead to the 15-16 ALCS.

The "Toronto fans won't accept a rebuild" is proven lies by "guys in the ivory towers". Leafs did it and if anything, fans enjoyed losing more than middling out. Especially because they knew there was a (Shana)plan.
Eh, not really. Gillick laid the blueprint for expansion franchises with how he built the Blue Jays and AA did as well as he could and was always forward thinking.

It's only when coupled with corporate management and weak/corporate type management that the team has screwed up. Gord Ash wasn't given a fair shake because he served under an ownership (InterBrew SA) who one year gave him a blank checque than the next year slashed the budget by more than half. It was a yo-yo ride for him. Rogers bought into the Moneyball hype but brought in the wrong guy in the form of JP Ricciardi who was way in over his head. Now, we're seeing a super corporate management team with Shatkins. At least they have a top 5-10 farm system as their saving grace though.

          Here's a fun little stat

21 years ago today, Greg Maddux threw a 76 pitch complete game. He threw just 13 balls the entire game with an 86% strike percentage and didn't get into single 3-ball count the entire game.

In all seriousness, to this day nobody still knows what the hell Manny was doing... besides being Manny.

Still waiting to see this game somewhere in full again.

Mets season is now officially over.

Tim Tebow is out for the season.

That's a bummer. With the way the Mets season was going with injuries and what not he may have actually been called up at some point.

I think it's a blessing in disguise. Wasn't looking forward to Tebow mania in September.

I dunno, I would've liked to see Tebow being that one shining light in what has been a dumpster fire of a season. I could easily see the Mets doing something crazy like firing Callaway and hiring Matheny.

Anyone see/hear what happened with a fan at the Cubs game? It's reasons like that I hope I don't get a ball if I'm at a game with kids near me.

The internet/media were roasting a guy in the crowd because he got a ball and didn't give it to the kid infront of him. It being the internet, everyone jumps to conclusion and rips him for it. What they didn't realize was that he actually did give that very kid a ball earlier in the game, and even other kids too. That kid infront of him ended up getting a signed ball from Baez. So now that kid has 2 baseballs.

Like I said, this is something I'd hate about things like this. You're just at a game having a good time, even in this guys case, being a nice guy and giving away ball after ball after ball to various kids in the crowd. But the 1 ball you keep for yourself, it gets captured on camera, everyone screenshots it, posts it all over the internet and rips you for it, no knowing a single thing about the story.

I don't know what I'd do in that situation if I ever did catch a ball and there happened to be kids sitting near me. I'd wanna keep it for myself because I actually haven't caught a ball at a game before(I've gotten some in the past because I sat right by the baseline, but that was it), but it's not worth potential backlash. Even worse if the kid there doesn't even want/ask for the ball but people expect you to give it anyways.

Coach threw a ball toward a kid. Kid missed it. Middle aged man grabbed it and gave it to his wife. That's what the video showed, but apparently this guy had helped a few kids around him get balls, including the kid that the ball was intended for.

Moral of the story: If you look over 18, just give the ball to a kid immediately.

^^The only defense I will give to the internet roasters was that the ball was tossed into the stands by a player/coach (I think it was Cubs 1B coach, Will Venable), and the kid was pretty clearly calling for it, so I guess they all assumed that Venable was tossing it to him.

But definitely another example of how internet mobs are merciless and quick to judge before gathering any information.
