Dang, looks like Tatis Jr. may miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back. That's a shame is such an exciting talent.

That's okay. The Padres have been out for the season for a while now.

                  That's a bit of a narrowminded viewpoint.

Yes, playoff and world series contention are top priorities for most teams (some understand it's not a realistic goal for that season however, the Padres likely being one of them), but he was going for a Rookie of the Year run, and individual accolades like that are important for people, especially when you can only obtain it once.

Plus, fans everywhere like myself love the excitement he brings to baseball. I am significantly less inclined to watch a Padres game now without him in the lineup, and by that I mean it has probably gone down 80%. Not to mention back injuries are a pretty serious thing, and I feel for the guy that he is missing this playing time. Don't know if a stress fracture could affect his daily routines outside of baseball, but if so then oof.

Lastly, selfishly and much less importantly... that dude is on my fantasy team, and I am certainly not out of my season, heh.

                      That's kinda sad.

Bote has been very average for awhile though, both defensively and with the bat, so it's not like it's completely undeserved

Seems like it's a regular occurrence for all these young Cubs to spend time in Iowa much later than it seems they should have. Others may try to blame this on Maddon, but I think it's a little more complicated than that. Schwarber, Russell and Almora were all called up a bit prematurely to help the pennant chase. Then Schwarber missed a full season, Almora had to share time with Happ so neither really developed much when they reached the bigs, and while Russell actually got consistent playing time he had much bigger problems off the field. It's almost as if the Cub's depth really worked against them as they just had a logjam of young position players with not enough positions on the field to develop them. Just look at how guys like La Stella and Soler took off once they finally got regular AB's. In hindsight it probably would have been smarter to trade from the major league core for pitching instead of dealing Eloy and Cease for Quintana.

Also, the revolving door of assistant coaches certainly isn't ideal for a young team. Those are the ones who are actually working on things like new approaches or mechanical adjustments with the players day in and day out.

Step aside Edwin Jackson. It looks like Octavio Dotel might be able to start adding prison league teams to his lengthy list of teams played for.

Might as well. I still want to see Mekkes get a shot. His AAA numbers suck this year but the PCL is like mutant league baseball with these offensive stats.

Saw this coming from about 10 miles away...good riddance to Brandon Morrow's glass arm.

Cubs reliever Brandon Morrow, who has been out since last year's All-Star break because of lingering elbow problems, was shut down for the season Wednesday.
