Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat

Rag - Man, your former Padres are really putting a hurting on the Brewers tonight. First Ollie goes out and dominates and now Jason Bay is having an amazing game. 3 2B's, 1 HR and 8 RBI's. I wasn't thrilled with the Giles trade when it happened - since Giles was one of my favorite players - but the more I see of Ollie and Bay, I think "Giles who?".

Now that my bar night got cancelled (my girlfriends sister turned 21 and she already got sick by the time I was going to get there so I cancelled!!), it's been a joy to watch the Pirates playing exceptional ball right now.

Yup, Bay just went insane (good thing I played him today). I'm saying right now Giles better pick it up, 20+ home runs and about 100 rbi's isn't that good considering what was given up.

It'd be even worse if Stewart turns out to be a good pitcher.

Good job by the former Padres (seems like whenever someone leaves the Padres, they thrive, just look at Newhan).

It's all about the starting pitching. Earlier, our starters were collectively sucking (except for Perez) to the tune of an ERA probably around 7. Right now, in the last 7 games, the starters have an ERA under 3.

To add to that, it seems in the past when pitching is going well, the hitters can't squeak out a run. When we're putting up 7-8 runs per game, the pitching stinks and gives it right back.

Right now, both aspects are going really well. It's unfortunate that the All Star break is coming up because this team is really hot. Hopefully that little break doesn't slow them down.

You're definitely right about the hitting. It explains why Ollie hadn't won in over a month before last night.

It was good to see Tike Redman back at the top of the lineup. I just hope he stays there for a while. Kendall should be the #3 guy, and Mackowiak has no business batting third.

Is it just me, or does it seem like someone finally pounded the idea of taking pitches into the head of Randall Simon? He walked again last night, and he seems to almost take a walk in every game he's been in.
