Re: Official 2004 Pittsburgh Pirates GameLog/Chat

    - I think one other team that seems to be hanging around the Benson trade is the Twins. They've been reported a couple times as being intrested. They seem have the most upper level prospects who are ready to step in right away. It would be great if we could somehow swing a deal that way and get a corner infielder. As for Wigginton I really think the Pirates would lose on the deal. He doesn't have a really high ceiling and isn't going a "stud" not to mention is defense is VERY iffy. I would really like to see the Pirates trade elsewhere that New York.

    - I said early I wouldn't be surprised to see Davis traded to save face on him and get Batista back.

    - Mesa I think will be on the move soon. He's starting to get a little shakey in the 9th and I think the Pirates should move him soon. He's had a decent year and some team is going to need some bullpen help.

    - Craig Wilson. I think the Pirates will listen to offers for him but unless they are blown away they'll hold on to him. He's had a good year for the Bucs and barring some team throwing 2 or 3 top guys I think he'll stick around.

    - Simon is just starting to hit for the Bucs. If some team sees this and wants him I think the Pirates will give him away. Pirates would love to unload him to anyone who would listen.

    - While I don't really think the Pirates NEED to move Kendall some rumors are surfacing. One has him going to the Mets in a Benson deal. This I could see happening because the Mets would pick up a large part of the contract. The other that's been reported is Kendall to the Marlins. They need a catcher but I don't think either team is going to pick up a large part of the contract so this one may not go anywhere.

I honestly can't think of any reason why the Pirates would trade Craig Wilson. He doesn't command a large salary, he's still young, and he's one of the top producers on the team. Sure, a lot of people will come calling, but I don't see them getting much of an answer.

I'd consider packaging Kendall in a trade with Benson maybe if it gets the Pirates that prospect from the Mets.

Simon's not going anywhere...he's too inconsistent at the plate.

And for current events: Jason Bay plays in his first game in the past 4 and hits 2 HRs, goes 3-4, and drives in 4 runs

Bay is such and animal. This kid just knows how to play the game. I mean he misses 4 games and comes back and just keeps hitting like he never left. If this keeps up Littlefield is going to look like a genius in the Giles trade.

I also wouldn't be opposed to packaging Kendall but if it's to the Mets I don't think we're going to get Wright in return. If traded to NY they would pick up most of his salary so we probably wouldn't get their best prospect in return. If we kicked in a lot of the money maybe there can be talks.

And on the Wigginton front it looks like he had another good game. He is really increasing his stock over the last couple days. I hope the Pirates don't bite on him just because he's hot, he's not that good of a player.

I do believe it's time to resurrect the bucco thread.

Ollie has 6 k's through 3 innings if anyone else is keeping track. It looks to be another good Pirate's pitching performance .

Has anyone noticed we are ONLY 8 or 9 games back of the NL wild card spot. Has to be the first time in a LONG time its been anywhere near that for the bucs. I'm not saying they're gonna stage a miraculous comeback or anything and run away with it, but stranger things have happened than an october season at pnc park. I know I know, before all the dark reality posters start to come down on me, just remember im one of many hopeful and happless pirate fans.

if any other of u bucco fans just think im totally out of line with these prospects, then fine. but this is just coming from a kid whos never seen a pirates championship and has grown up with that horrid memory of watching bonds not being able to throw out sid bream at the plate.

ahh im done sorry all lol

Good to see the Pirates Thread back up.

I agree pncbucs. I was alive the last time the Pirates won a World Series, but certainly don't remember it (I was 2!). Although I definately recall the early 90's and Francisco "Freakin" Cabrera knocking home Sid Bream as Bonds 10-hopped a throw from LF to the plate.

I'm excited watching this Pirates team. Honestly I don't think much will happen this season and maybe next, but I like what the young kids on this team have been able to accomplish. It certainly is reason to be optimistic for the future (as long as these guys stay here in PGH). The Pirates need to add a few more pieces to the puzzle and they might have a good shot at turning things around. I think that the Pirates are the youngest team in baseball right now.

yeah i really didnt think they had much of a shot at really getting the wild card spot this year..just a bit pumped about ollies pitcing tonight lol. 6-2 bucs through 4 by the way .

anyway about the future ... im really liking all of our levels in the minors right now. nashville looks very strong with vanbeschoten(sp?) and corey stewart plus hitters like jr house if he performs like weve seen him and tony alvarez (AAA CF if redman doesnt pan out, though at the moment he has caught fire and definitely looks like what adrian brown should have been).

at double A we have ian snell, bryan bullington and zack duke (young lefthander who has been stunning at the rookie level). hitting there is also strong with the speedy/330 hitter chris duffy, nate mclouth, and jeff kippinger. dont know much about the other two but you can find out alot about all of our good prospects at the curve and sounds' websites. no links right now sorry fellas

craigy just made a nice catch going over the rail to make a play on a foul ball. go bucs!

Nice to see the old Bucs thread.

It's nice to see that the it's July and the Bucs are only single digits away from a playoff spot. Barring a complete collapse of the rest of the NL the Pirates won't be playing in October. But that really wasn't the goal for the team. Coming out of spring training I think the number 1 goal was to get to .500 and prove all the critics wrong who said they would finish last. I can barely remember that last time I saw the Pirates playing this well. The future looks bright for the Bucs I just hope they play their cards right.
