Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
The fans have had it with him, Ryne Sandberg has had it with him, and the front office has had it with him. All grounds for a trade or release. Either way you slice it the Phillies are still paying the majority if not all of that contract.
He is hurting this team beyond belief. Howard is hitting .224 with a .305 on-base percentage. He has one home run in his last 121 plate appearances. He has three doubles in his last 55 games dating back to May 22. He has also struck out 118 times as well.

Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
I feel bad for Phillies fans, Amaro has totally screwed the pooch on the transition to a new era.
Howard strikes me as someone who needs a change of scenery BADLY. I wouldn't mind the Jays taking a flier on him if he's released.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2014 MLB Trade Deadline Thread
As my friend just said.
Also, I'd like to take a moment to LOL at the Tigers. The following sequence is just nuts:
1. Let Joakim Benoit walk on a 2-year $16 million deal (0.7 fWAR so far)
2. Trade Doug Fister for complete garbage (Ray, Lombardozzi, Krol have combined for -0.6 fWAR so far) to free up cash to acquire proven closer Joe Nathan for 2/14.
3. Nathan, being a 39-year old reliever, bombs.
4. They trade two young assets to acquire Soria, to replace Nathan, who replaced Benoit, who they let walk.
In the end they burn Fister, Thompson, Knebel, and cash trying to improve the bullpen, when they could have just signed Benoit and been done with it."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment
