He rejected a $14M qualifying offer in the offseason.

Because they only signed Morales when they thought they had a shot at the playoffs. Now that shot is basically gone so just trade him away for whatever they can get.

The entire Twins organization outside of the scouting department needs to be loaded into a cannon and shot into the sun.

              They had the following options:

A.) Keep him, hope for a playoff run or at least pretending to be competitive, and choose whether or not to resign him.
B.) Keep him, and deal him at the deadline to a desperate team for a semi-important piece.
C.) Deal him now for almost literally nothing.

Like, you don't need to deal every vet you have when you're rebuilding. I love that the Padres just extended Seth Smith. The difference between tanking for the 8th pick and the 15th pick, for example, isn't big. It's about $10m, or like one Scott Feldman. But the difference in value between maintaining a semi-competitive team and tanking in terms of profit and revenue? Huge. It can cost you fans.

Baseball is the one sport where you don't need to tank to assemble a great roster of prospects. Hockey, to an extent, but mainly baseball. Tanking doesn't make sense in baseball imo. This is more of a general point, as the Twins did exactly what I liked to see in making FA signings in Nolasco and Hughes, but I don't like that they sold Morales for next to nothing here. I'd rather see them put a semi competitive team on the field than deal a useful player for next to nothing.

Assuming they weren't just clearing salary, that is.

This is exactly what it was about. Silver lining - maybe Pinto will get more at bats. Morales was ****ing awful in his 40 games here.

Still, it was just 40 games. Not a huge sample by any means.

I'm hoping that it can't get any worse for Morales and hopefully his time with the twins acts as "spring training".

I understand that, but I'm at such an apathetic place with the Twins. Until there is a new front office and coaching staff, I will continue to not watch them.

Lol, I'm like that with the Leafs. At least you guys actually have some hope.

                            A few minor moves.

Yankees acquire Chris Capuano from the Rockies for cash.

The Orioles acquire Jimmy Parades from the Royas for cash.

                            A's DFA Jim Johnson

Astros unlikely to trade Chad Qualls

Jon Heyman is reporting the Phillies are shopping Ryan Howard and will most if not all of his salary in a trade. They are looking for a match.

But he's bad at baseball. There's $72.5 MILLION left on that contract. And that's assuming you exercise the 2017 buyout of 10 million (what the ****?) as opposed to the $20m+ team option (seriously Amaro?). The best prospect in baseball could have as high as a $42.2m surplus value. They'd need two Kris Bryants to make that worth while. Would the Cubs trade, like, Javier Baez and Kris Bryant for a free Ryan Howard? lol

Assuming that they mean eating the entire contract. And if they're just talking about this year, no team will do it.

They probably couldn't eat more than $5m before it stops being worth it for them.
