Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
So ... Kemp is scheduled to make $21.5M a year for the next three years, but the Dodgers are picking up $3.5M of that. So it's essentially $18M a year for three years that the Braves are picking up.
Olivera is scheduled to make $28.5M a year for the next four years. I'll just call it $7M a year that the Padres have picked up.
So the Braves will pay Kemp $11M more per year than they would have with Olivera, but they'll save $7M in 2020 (Olivera's final year).
And the Padres (who have already DFA'd Olivera) will save about $26M over the four years with the trade.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Apparently the Rockies aren't likely to trade Carlos Gonzalez or Charlie Blackmon and may even add to their mix. How refreshing that the Rockies don't feel the need to buy into the garbage that you have to "be a seller!" if you're "not going to win anyway!" and don't care about "hurting The Rebuild" or whatever crap people like to say now.
And how refreshing that are 4.5 games out of a 1 game gimmick and yet they don't want to give up and trade off their biggest pieces to try to "make it work another way." Almost as if anything can happen in baseball and resigning yourself to a particular fate is ****ing stupid and that maybe stability and constantly building with whatever you've got is a good thing and likely the surest way to success.Comment

It could also be ownership telling him to cut payroll. San Diego is not historically a high spending team.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Its just that he created the whole mess himself, and now he's trying to fix it....and somehow it might work and he could end up being a hero after trading away Trea Turner, Yasmani Grandal, Jesse Hahn, Max Fried, Mallex Smith, Matt Wisler....I understand that he got some quality pieces back for some of those. But they had a decent group of young players coming up, and he blew it up trying to win in 2015, and delayed a rebuild by one season. I feel like he created his own mess just so he could clean it up and save the day.Chicago Cubs

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Listening to the Red Sox announcers talk about the Kemp trade is pretty hilarious...they are completely ignorant on what went down."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
So the braves want Kemp why?
Hell of a pickup for Cleveland, they get a healthy Brantley on top of that, man they are looking good.
