Yea I have no idea why the Braves would take on Kemp... No ****ing clue what they're thinking.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Brewers getting close to Lucroy deal... Sounds like Cleveland is the front runner now.
Talks with Mets havent progressed as today went on... And theres now a growing sense that Lucroy wont be headed to NY.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
If the Padres are picking up the tab, I'd be okay with that. Olivera will never play in Atlanta...I can't believe the Padres would do this, unless they are shedding all of Kemp's salary."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Yeah it only makes sense if the Padres are getting out of the entirety of Kemp's deal.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Which is stupid for Atlanta to take on his salary (roughly $18M year as the Dodgers are paying $3.5M). I'm really curious to see how we justify picking up an expensive, 31-year old, defensive liability on a rebuilding team. The Nick Markakis deal had me scratching my head, but at least he's been a 2-3 WAR player at $11M/year...Kemp...not even close to justifying his salary with his production."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Wow...I just read that the Padres are offering to pay the entirety of Kemp's contract...they just want him gone. If the Braves turn Olivera into a free Kemp that's a good thing."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
So, either the Padres actually want Olivera for some reason, or they are trying to get off the hook by paying only 75-90% of Kemp's deal.
EDIT: Or there is a 3rd team and the Padres/Braves are getting prospects somehow?Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 07-30-2016, 05:54 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
So we have an older player with no defense and a decent bat.
Sounds like somebody we can trade to NYM.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
I honestly don't think a basically free Matt Kemp is a bad get for the Braves if that's what this is. Rebuilding or not, they can use some offense. There's really no downside to taking on an average hitting former superstar if you can get him for free (and if he doesn't get disgruntled).
If there's no 3rd team, it wouldn't shock me if the Padres have weasled out of $5-10MM of Kemp's contract. Otherwise, no motivation for Preller aside from opening up RF for Renfroe.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
So it sounds like it's done...DOB is saying there are cash considerations that are unknown, so I'm curious how much of his salary the Padres picked up. I expect it will be around $6M/year which means both teams are paying roughly $12M for the two players."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do.
