Re: What do the Yankees do now?
Hopefully, Steinbrenner has learned that teams with 25 big name superstar, or former superstars don't work, and he'll try and trade most of the high priced players with a few exceptions, and rebuild the team, even if it means taking on a lot of dead money.
What's more likely to happen is he fires everybody, signs Beltran, and all the available pitchers, and the Yankees will continue to go to the playoffs and lose until all the veterans are no longer productive, and the team becomes the joke of the league like the Mets have been, and the Rangers in hockey.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Originally posted by camulosI have a feeling instead of going out and buying a ton of players like people are predicting, steinbrenner will do the smart thing and try to unload some of their players. As much as I hate the guy they need to focus on getting competitive players like Jeter. Him, Rivera, Bernie and Posada are the only people left from their championship teams. Buying superstars like arod and sheffield is a good way to win 100 games but it won't take you to the next level.
Bellhorn - Not drafted by the Sox
Manny - Not drafted by the Sox
Papi - Not drafted by the Sox
Millar - Not drafted by the Sox
Tek - Not drafted by the Sox
Nixon - (don't know)
Mueller - (don't know)
Cabrera - Not drafted by the Sox
Schilling - Not drafted by the Sox
Pedro - Not drafted by the Sox
Lowe - Not drafted by the Sox
Wakefield - Not drafted by the Sox
Timlin - Not drafted by the Sox
Embree - (don't know)
Foulke - Not drafted by the Sox
Let's not get carried away with the whole "buy the WS" and not enough home grown players argument. The entire core of their offense and pitching from from trades or free agent signings.Comment

And for the record Curt Schilling was drafted by the Red Sox in the 1986 amateur draft ironically. Trot Nixon came up through their minor league system as well.Comment

Nixon is the only player drafted by the Red Sox that you mentioned. Mueller was a free-agent addition for the 2003 season and Embree was part of a 2002 trade.
I agree. As much as people get on the Yankees about how they are buying world series, and how they have no home grown talent, the Red Sox are just as guilty. Remember, they tried to get A-Rod, they are the ones who brought in Schilling, etc. But it is still good to see them win.Comment
