      McCutchen back to Pirates

Didn't realize he's been gone for 5 years, or that he played with the Yankees, Giants and Brewers (Phillies I remember)

Jays agreed to deals with all their arbitration eligible players (most seem to be similar or lower than MLBTRs projections, including Vlad at 14.5m, which along with Alonso is the record for highest arbitration salary for a 1B more than 1 year away from free agency, both will break Abreus record next year for sure).

Interesting thing though, Bo Bichette becomes the rare Jays player to actually go to arbitration (unless a deal is reached before).

Jays offered 5m, he wants 7m. Comparing to the stacked 2019 SS group (best recent comparison among 1st time eligible arbitration guys), he's been better than Turner was back then but slightly worse than Seager. Seager got 4m, Turner 3.75m.

5m seems more than fair here.

I think the only problem is it was 2019 tv contrracts and collective bargaining deal not the new ones. Bo was a 3.4 WAR player last year, Vladdy was a 3.9 WAR player.

I realize they're at different stages of the process, but still the numbers are the numbers

Two years with an opt out after the first one. I actually really like the move. Another good deadline piece if he can produce in the first half similar to the Bellinger signing.

                    Re: 2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread

I missed this a few days ago, but wanted to put a bow on how the Correa contract is setup as it's actually more that a 6 year deal.

On Tuesday, the Twins and Correa came to terms on a deal that would guarantee $200 million over six years. Included are vesting options that pay $25 million for a seventh year, $20 million for an eighth, $15 million for a ninth and $10 million for a 10th. It also includes a full no-trade clause and annual salaries of $36 million for the first three years, followed by $31.5 million, $30.5 million and $30 million.

The maximum value is $270 million -- about $7.5 million more than the Mets would have paid him through 10 years but $15 million less than the Twins were set to guarantee him the first time. The average annual value of Correa's guaranteed deal is $33.3 million, the second-highest figure for a shortstop behind only Francisco Lindor's 10-year, $341 million deal with the Mets, and while the total dollars pale to Correa's Giants deal, ending up at $200 million, following a pair of failed physicals, is far from worst-case.

Yeah, I was just hoping they'd give Matt Mervis the chance to play 1B, but looks like that's not the case

I'm operating under the assumption the Cubs are signing guys for trade deadline moves and will be holding their young player's control for another year unless something magical happens and all their coin flips come up heads.

I think they'll be competitive, but I don't think they're in win this year mode.

Did they move international signings to January?

Thought it was July 2 or something.

Jays sign Emmanuel Bonilla. Could be the first position player named Bonilla in the majors since.....THE Bonilla.

Another of their IFA signings is Juan Diego Rosas.

If this guy ever makes it to the bigs, he better wind up with the Padres just for all the "Juan Diego" talk that comes with it.

I don't think Eric Hosmer on a league minimum salary will stop them. Mancini will probably mostly DH. Once they feel Mervis is ready I could see them cutting ties with Hosmer
