Re: 2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread
Think I'm reaching my breaking point as an A's fan.......Leaving the Bay most likely for Vegas, raising ticket and parking prices but continuously decreasing payroll. I've since moved from Sacramento to LA and the more I watch The Padres the more I find myself following them more.
I've never changed sports allegiances and it makes me feel gross but I'm getting real close here. Am I a bad fan?
and, yeah, I realise the Braves did the same thing to Boston, Milwaukee, and to a lesser extent, Atlanta lolOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

For the majority of our existence we've been similiar to Oak in terms of payroll so having Peter Seidler has been a godsend.Comment

In not news: Clark and the Union basically said regarding a salary cap: "over my cold dead body"; which has been their historical position.
And the AT&T regional sport network are going under too, lots of stuff happening.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Not sure:
According to the WSJ, the letter proposes that AT&T SportsNet transfer network ownership and programming rights to the teams for no purchase price consideration beyond a release by teams of any future claims against the networks.
The letter reportedly said, “Unless we can reach a deal to transfer ownership of the network (and the attendant rights)” by March 31, “our only realistic option is to file for chapter 7 liquidation.”
According to the WSJ, the NBA, MLB and NHL are also being informed by Warner Bros. Discovery of the situation.
“AT&T SportsNet is not immune to the well-known challenges that the entire RSN industry is facing,” Warner Bros. Discovery said in a statement to the Sports Business Journal. “We will continue to engage in private conversations with our partners as we seek to identify reasonable and constructive solutions.”

If bankruptcy occurs and Diamond stops rights fee payments, the three men’s leagues — MLB, NHL and NBA — are putting in place contingency plans to make sure fans can watch. And in the case of MLB, that league almost seems to be hoping for this. Just how you watch, who broadcasts or streams them, and how much you pay after a bankruptcy reorganization are all still unknown.

Re: 2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread
Maybe this:
Warner Bros. Discovery has told teams that it plans to exit the regional sports network business entirely within the next several weeks.
The company, which operates three AT&T SportsNet-branded channels in Denver, Houston and Pittsburgh and has a minority stake in the Root Sports channel in Seattle, has told teams that they have until March 31 to reach an agreement to take their rights back. If the RSNs can’t reach deals with the teams, the channels eventually plan to move forward with a Chapter 7 liquidation filing.
In a statement provided to SBJ, WBD said, “AT&T SportsNet is not immune to the well-known challenges that the entire RSN industry is facing. We will continue to engage in private conversations with our partners as we seek to identify reasonable and constructive solutions.”
WBD sent letters to the leagues and teams this afternoon informing them of their plans to divest their interest in those four RSNs.
WBD has rights deals with 10 teams across those four networks: four MLB teams (Astros, Mariners, Pirates, Rockies), three NBA teams (Blazers, Jazz, Rockets) and three NHL teams (Kraken, Penguins, Golden Knights).
The moves come at a fraught time for WBD, which has been trying to get out of the RSN business for a while.
Over the past several months, league sources privately have praised WBD Sports’ RSN leadership, led by AT&T SportsNet President Patrick Crumb, for working with the teams to come up with a plan that would enable the company to get out of the RSN business.
In the letters, WBD said that it will allow the teams to use the same production staff and equipment to continue producing the games.

I would guess, temporarily, MLB takes over with the current production team in place and distribute it itself?OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment
