He has had 2 elite years ('21 and '24), and everything else has been good, but not quite what you would want from a guy getting $300M+. I've also seen some rumors that an extension would be in the $400M - $500M range which I would be hesitant to give a bat only 1B who has a fair bit of variability in his annual production
Except Vlad is worth way more to Toronto than he would to any other franchise. A charismatic hometown hero, the son of one of the most beloved players to ever play in Canada, the centerpiece of all their marketing. Toronto's farm system sucks and Rogers Centre is a crappy place to watch a ballgame if the team is losing and has no star power. Rogers owns pretty much everything in Canada: they can outspend everyone except the Mets (and maybe Dodgers) with ease if they so choose. It's basically waving the white flag if they let him leave; attendance and TV ratings will absolutely crater.

And no, of course Guerrero's production isn't worth 400-500M, but the market is what one rich and/or dumb team will pay you, and Ohtani/Soto have reset the market. Vlad's still 25, and the 2025 FA list is going to be Tucker (if he doesn't extend with the Cubs), Vladdy, and scraps, with a whole lot of rich contenders looking to spend. Even a mediocre season like '21 or '22 will net him a 300-350M contract; a repeat of '21 or '24, and Vlad will make a mint, regardless if whoever signs him later regrets it.

TLDR: The Jays have ****ed up big-time and have a decent shot at becoming Angels East.

That's all fair. It's probably the right organizational move would be to extend him, it just may not be the right baseball move at the price he is seeking.

I would also put the odds that Tucker extends with the Cubs very low unfortunately 😕

They were saying it was a proposed trade for a the need at SS...perhaps it was a media idea but either way, saw it in my feed and immediately screamed "No!!?"

I'll believe it when it happens but seems like Santander to Jays could pick up steam.

Sounds like Roki is close to deciding which team he'll be signing with.

Braves have done a bunch of nothing except lose Fried and Morton (they did sign a utility piece in De La Cruz). Is AA planning on guys coming back from injury to fill those holes (Strider/Anderson)?

The Mets are driving me nuts this off-season. We spend 25 billion it felt like on Juan Soto and then Sterns fills out the rest of the roster at the dollar store. We need to be all in NOW

We are short 2 to 3 GOOD RP, Still have no ace which I imagine if Sasaki does not choose us we not getting one, And Can we get Soto some protection please. I mean my god. Richest owner in the sport stop shopping at 5 below.

This is why guys like you and I don't run teams, we would do things like be "all in now" LOL. I'm with ya!

But what they have done has been fine, but things will fall into place once Sasaki signs with a team.

Aint that the truth. I would be shipping prospects out for every big name haha, But I will be shocked if Sasaki is not a Dodger or Padre

I don't understand why we base every other salary in professional sports on the annual amount and yet baseball now gets talked about at an Overall Amount. Sure Vladdy may not be worth $450MM but he is for sure worth $30MM - $40MM per year. So $450MM over 12-15 years is fine.
