    Re: 2024-2025 Hot Stove Thread

I see in the terrible Blue Jays trade for Myles Straw that the Blue Jays agreed to give Cleveland a player to be named later or cash. The trade gave the Jays an extra $2 million in international bonus money which they were hoping to use on Sakasi.

I am now wondering if part of the deal was that if the Jays didn't get Sakasi, the player to be named later is in fact Myles Straw.

I believe this has happened before. I'm sure someone here can correct me.

That wouldn't be bad if that was their plan. Just makes no sense if they make this deal just for the sake of making it and not benefitting at all from the IFA money.

The PTBNL being Straw would be funny but would be fitting.

Unless the Dodgers also have interest, Jays seem like they have a shot to get Scherzer and Alonso.

Having Alonso,Vladdy,Santander (combined for over 100HR last season) in the middle of your lineup really sounds good.

Where are you putting Alonso if you have Vlad at first, DH? At the end of the day he'll go where the money is but a few years ago when the Mets didn't have a DH and they just rotated their regular starters in the DH spot he said he hated not playing in the field

Vladdy wants to play 3B, doesn't mean he's great defensively over there, but he wants to go back. Bregman would be the better fit imo since he won a GG at 3B so Jays would enter next season with 3 of the 8 position players in the AL who won a gold glove last year, and even Vladdy won one a few years ago. That combined with an improved offense would be nice to have.

I saw some suggest that Boras could be trying to get a package deal. And Scherzer/Alonso were briefly teammates in NY so perhaps there could be a connection there.

Saw one rumor saying 3 years 75m for Alonso to the Jays perhaps.

And possibly 1 year 16m for Scherzer

Saw that as well.... Hopefully they get Alonso and then find a way to lock up Vladdy Jr.

Guerrero Jr, Alonso, Santander would be one hell of a 3-4-5!

If their rotation stays healthy with Berrios, Gausman, Bassitt, Scherzer and whoever the 5th starter is, and they have that Santander,Alonso,Vlad lineup down the middle, this team might be able to surprise people.

Jays were rumored to be interested in him as a backup plan if their plans for Alonso fell through, so perhaps this could be a sign they're getting Alonso and told Profar they aren't interested anymore? Profar is a Boras client as well.

Mets reporter seems to think it's likely happening

                      Jays reporters say the opposite.

I have NO IDEA what the hell my Mets GM Sterns is doing. Does he honestly think we can win a world series with the protection for Soto being Winker, Nimmo, Baty

THIS DUDE HAS LOST HIS MIND.

See this was why us getting to the NLCS last year hurt us. It made Sterns think he is some master mind who can win with cheap players. We are short an ace, short another good bullpen arm, and short Soto protection

Rumor is he vetoed the Tigers deal, and the hold up with the Cubs is them guarantee he will be their closer.

I don't how guarantee that. You can tell him he is the closer if he is effective, but what if he isn't? How would the "guarantee" work then?
