Like always Kazmir has a fine outing against Sox. We couldn't finish the sweep huh...
18-1 hell of a season regardless

No sweep, but all in all a 5-2 road trip isn't bad. Especially considering it featured 4 games against one of the AL's elite. This Baltimore series should be tougher than most series against the O's as I believe both Bedard and Guthrie are scheduled to pitch. Those two guys have been lights out recently.

Thoughts on the move to get Gagne? I like it. Murphy was never going to see the majors with the Red Sox and Gabbard is kind of a luxury at this point. Gagne will give them a chance to rest Okajima and Papelbon a little down the stretch and keep them fresh.

I love the deal. The bullpen coming into tonight has an ERA f 2.74 and they just added statistically the best closer in recent memory to that. I liked Gabbard going back to last year. He has a good makeup and good enough stuff to compete at this level. He is what he is though, and that's an end of the rotation guy. Every team needs guys like that, but he should not have been coveted as a great prospect. And sine he was pitching so well recently I thought they should sell high on him. I felt it was obvious since the beginning he only got called up to be a showcase piece. Hence why Lester stayed down (they don't want to trade him) and why Schilling is pitching in Triple A tonight even though he clearly is ready to rejoin the rotation. Murphy is more a fifth outfielder than a fourth. It certainly doesn't hurt to give him up.

Health concerns aside, the end of this bullpen is incredible. And if Delcarmen and Timlin continue to give this club quality innings all the better. This is the type of bullpen that wins championships. Now everyone just has to stay healthy and do their part to get this team to the Playoffs where anything can happen.

When I first heard about it being a possibility, I was a little worried that there would be a fight for the closer role and it would hurt the chemistry, but everything I've read has Gagne conceding the closer role to Paps and basically just wants to win. You can never have too many of those types of players.

Not a bad debut for Gagne. He struck out two but gave up one run on two hits, one being a "double" that Lowell lost in the sun that somehow managed to land in fair territory. I'm sure he would have prefered a 1-2-3 inning but I'll take it.

Anyone watch the game today? I didn't get a chance to watch it but from just looking at the box score it looks like Beckett did pretty good.

Couple of crazy plays here in the LA game. O-Cab robs us with a great play once again spitting in Epstein's face. Then Moss bobbled a catch in the OF and since the runner can leave as soon as contact with the OF is made, he was safe.

Not going the Sox way but we can afford to lose one here and take solace in Schilling's start.

Moss definately isn't as good a fielder as Murphy was. It seemed like Murphy was always making the right throws and just played fundamental baseball. You can tell Moss isn't as good as Murphy in the outfield.

Is Manny Delcarmen OK and has he pitched recently? I would have rather seen him come in for Schilling but maybe he's been used alot or Tavarez needed his work. Its tough to keep up with these dreaded West Coast trips.

Delcarmen is fine as far as I know. He pitched yesterday so I think he's probably just getting a day off.

Brandon Moss for the win? I'd pass out.

I'm officialy waving the white flag for Ortiz' power this year. I don't suggest for him to go on the shelf for the year because this is as good a chance as any to win the World Series, but I wouldn't expect any sudden increase in power. I say this because I just turner on the game and have never seen him so out of his crouch in my life. He's almost standing straight up.

Mirabelli hit a bomb by the way.
