Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
True, but when Theriot is the only one looking good at the plate, you're not going to score more than one run anyway. Soriano and Lee just looked lost.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
We just haven't gotten any breaks in this series. Every pivotal call has gone against us. If we can get a split in this series though I will consider this first part of the road trip a success."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Lee has been struggling this last month or so. He hasn't been hitting at all. Not many HRs, not many RBIs. Is it that hard to find tape from a couple years ago when he was a triple crown candidate through June? I know his swing and stance have changed a bit. It shouldn't be hard to fix. Really.

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I have always had the suspicion that a good bit of the organization's woes was due to the coaching/training/development arm....I mean, you would think someone might have been able to really help Prior in 5 years. And anyone that can't tell Lee is having problems is blind. He has had his moments, but overall I feel he has lost the plate vision that he was recognized for in his early years. He should be able to recognize that a pitch above HIS letters is a ball.

Good god man, the guy is still hitting .290 with 13 home runs. Every year the man has been healthy with the Cubs he's hit over .300.
Its called a slump. All players go through them from time to time.
Solid outing tonight by Marquis by the way."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Actually, he's hitting .284 with an OBP of .339. But this slump has been more than a month long. In May he hit .234 with an OBP of .269. You think that's terrible? In June, thus far, he's hit .167 with an OBP of .192! He's struggling, and like fugazi said, you're blind if you can't see that.
Every year the man has been healthy with the Cubs he's hit over .300.
Listen, Lee is a solid 1B but he needs to hit better than he has recently. It should be a fairly easy fix, but I think fugazi is right to say that the organization is at fault for 100 years of worthlessness. A better organization with better coaches probably would have tried to help him by now. As far as I know, the only thing he's done so far is take [extra?] batting practice. Bring out some tape ffs. If the technology is there, use it.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Have to say with all the winning the Cubs have been doing and especially with the Cubs going undefeated on their last home stand. It just makes me incredibly mad that St. Louis has managed to be only a few games back. I mean if the Cubs have the best record in the league in a division that isnt that strong I expect them to up by more then 2.5 games. My .02Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Well, the NLC was not supposed to be strong, but it is...and I though anyone that doubted it was silly to begin with...
StL is admittedly a surprise, but I think their pitching will catch up to them...Any time you have 3 guys in your lineup that can hit like they do, and a manager that knows how to do his job top notch, you can have success.
Houston has a monster lineup, even if their starting pitching is suspect. And Milwaukee had every reason to believe that this year might be theirs...add to that the wealth of young talent in Cincy, and you have a quality division.
It really isn't the Central Time Zone's fault that everyone paid attention to the Mets upside and not their problems (that is what always happens with the Mets...remember the Alomar days?)
There is no division as competitive day in and day out as the NLC. And I think it has been a well-contested division for years. How many other divisions went into each of the last 10 seasons and could say 3 teams could win it in most of those seasons? It has been a battle for Houston, StLouis, and Chicago virtually every season...not all, but most.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I'm telling you, Bob Howry is gonna be the death of us. People can bitch about Marquis as much as they want, and with good reason. But in the blink of an eye, Howry has the ability to lose a game, and a series. I'm tired of his ****.PSN: JISTIC_OS

You're not the only one man. He gives up way too many hits. I'm not very fond of Howry and last night's performance doesn't help any."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I actually think Howry will be okay. If you guys remember, Howry started slow last year and really heated up after the break.
The guy I'm worried about is Wuertz, but hopefully Lou won't use him in key situations from here on out. Wuertz should only be used in blow-outs.Comment
