Kinda felt this coming. We had to cool off a little bit. Hopefully we get right vs. SF.

Good news is Z is back Friday. Soriano is healing well too.

It's a marathon. The bad overall news though still is I hate our bullpen and I dont' see it getting much better.

I told my friends that I would happy if the Cubs could take one game but what can you do? Anyway, I'm just glad that interleague play is finally over.

Bring on the Giants! Hopefully, Lilly can outpitch Zito in the battle of the lefties. I don't think that's too much to ask for but baseball is a funny game so you never know. Hopefully, the Cubs can get a win tonight.

Ramirez is paid enough to handle his personal business AFTER the season or the all star break since I'm sure he won't be busy....

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday night that the slugger has asked for time off to take care of a personal matter in the Dominican Republic and will miss the next three games against the Giants in San Francisco.

You don't even know what it is. What if there was a death in the family or something? That is pretty shallow.

I agree, I don't mind that he has to tend to personal issues. It's just like someone taking time off of work to tend to personal issues, yeah it might not be the same pay but still family comes first.

ramirez is a human being, and deserves time off like everyone else...

that being said, what pisses me off is that Ward started in LF last night...LF in SanFran is mighty big...not as big as right-center, but still. I would expect him to retire before he made it to a deep fly to the warning track. He left 4 on base....

Micah Hoffpauir > Ward and Murton.

I can't believe this guy is still in the minors. My guess is that Ward would have to be waived, and I understand not wanting to do that, but damn.

Soto has to learn to hit with 2 strikes. He is awful with 2 strikes. The guy either swings at stuff way out of the zone, or takes pitches right over the plate. We need him to be a consistent threat. He needs to take some lessons from ARam on how to hit when behind.

I know things have looked good, but I hope the front office knows we need to make a move or two. A reliever would be nice...I think our field players will be fine, especially if we do not have to rely on Ward/Murton. (yes, I know ward is hitting .286).

and fwiw, lou needs to get on Fukudome's *** and tell him to try to pull the ball. I like him, and he is producing for us, but he looks like **** warmed over a good bit of the time. he is overdedicated to trying to hit the 3B coach.

i still hate Edmond's .240 average, but he just went opposite field for a 2-run shot.

                    Right on.

I pretty much agree with everything you posted. With regard to Fukudome, I feel like he'd be a much better hitter if he just stayed in the box and attacked the pitch, instead of leaning to first base and fouling off all sorts of good pitches. I mean, it's not like he gets that many infield hits, either. It's probably too late to change his swing, though. But his eye for the ball and otherwise clean swing seems to be affected by his off-balance lean, which is unfortunate.

                      Wow...

Marmol really needs to get his **** together. He just gave up a 3-run homer in the 7th to Durham. Now 5-5. He's either injured or rapidly becoming a headcase. Not good.

Fontenot picked us up tonight with the homerun, I think he could be a pretty good everyday player if he got the chance, but 2nd is filled up right now, and I don't think DeRosa is going to lose his job.

                          Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

If Lee gets another hit today, he will be back over .300. He has began to turn things around, but needs to produce with more power.

I hope our offense can jump back to life. There was no doubt that the gravy train that saw 6 of our starters hitting over .300 was going to end, but our slumpers need to wake up....

Soto and Fukudome, in particular need to return to form. I am being a little hard on Soto, I guess, as he has been hitting consistently. The power has all but disappeared, however.

The Cubs are really winning as a team...we have 3 50 rbi guys, no one with more than 15 homers, 3 9-win starters, each of whom might strikeout 200.

If Milwaukee deals for Sabathia, then our front office better get to thinking. Our bullpen probably can't hold up as is, especially with Howry showing no signs of improvement, and Marmol quickly coming down to earth in a bad way. At this point, i would accept Wood trying for 2-inning saves.

Ah just great! Another blown save for Wood which now makes 5 on the year. I just feel like I got kicked in the balls.

I still think we have better options than Edmonds.

He has had some clutch hits, but he is still hitting under .240. That really doesn't cut it...we aren't in the 1980s. What is more, his attempt to get home on the flyball was woeful. That he is as worthless on the bases as Ward is another reason he isn't worth it.

Wood was doing well to get out of trouble, but that pitch to Ankiel was ****. It was on a plate. He was bustin everyone else, and then pitches to Ankiel like he is scared of him. In his defense, he got a couple of bad calls, especially on the 2nd hitter when the 1st base ump said he didn't go around on strike 3. He might not have broken his wrists, but he broke the plane, and did so going forward.

                                *sigh*

I hate it when the Cubs blow games like these.

Wood was so close to getting out of trouble. But walking the first 2 batters is inexcusable for a closer. And then Lee didn't guard the line on a crucial play that gave Kennedy a double on an otherwise fairly routine ground ball. And then the last pitch by Wood was so bad. So bad.
