    yeah....

my thinking is that most of the season will essentially not matter until September...we close the year with 6 against the Cards, 6 against the Brewers, 3 against the Mets, and 3 against the Stros...not in that order, though. Not to mention that through August there is a series against each StL and Milwaukee, as well as Philly.

I am willing to bet that we will not know who will win the NLCentral until the last week of the season.

Bad loss for the Cubs tonight. Shut out by the aging Randy Johnson and a couple of terrible relievers. Aramis is also working on another 0-28 slump, it seems. What is it with this guy? Every time he gets a couple of days off, it takes him another 15 at bats to get a hit. Oh, and Bow Howry still sucks.

And if the Cubs continue to play like this on the road, you can bet that they'll lose the division. Theriot is the only one producing consistenly on offense. D. Lee is hitting .300 but his power numbers for such a "potent" offense are pretty mediocre. I already mentioned Ramirez's struggles in my last post, but Derosa, Fukudome, and Soto haven't done much at all lately. Even D. Ward has been a terrible pinch hitter this year. He's actually reminding me of the Lenny Harris of a few years back. Just bad. Get Hoffpauir up, please.

Ramirez has been pure garbage since his personal issues that he had to leave the team for. Insiders said that he was mentally distracted that series before he left, looks like it's carrying over.

Lee...is doing what Lee seems to do every year.

Wood on the DL ....for a blister?

          Yep the Cubs are back!

              Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

when the bats wake up, all will be well...if they wake up.

Our pitching is more or less awesome. 4 of our starters are capable of shutting anyone down, even if Lily might get lit up from time to time. Our 5th, Marquis, is not letting us down, either.

I have always been unsure of Lee as a #3 guy, though he still remains our 'best' hitter. The patience at the plate needs to return and PDQ. Soto and Ramirez cannot bat next to each other. This is a recipe for disaster. Breaking up Lee and Ramirez would be a fabulous idea, if you ask me. Putting Kosuke between them still seems to be the best option, but at this point I would take Edmonds there, too....both he and Fukudome have high OBPs. Having to face one of them with Ramirez on-deck means mucho pressure on the pitcher.

All in all, I am a bit unhappy with Piniella. I think he is managing the pitching staff well, but I am not happy at all with his lineup. It has been faltering for about a month and yet has not been changed. If we lose out, I will blame an institutional unwillingness to alter the Lee/Ramirez roller-coaster.

              I can't believe I am saying this....but what's the word on Soriano?

We were all very hyped about Soto, and for good reason, but he is still not a middle of the order guy. He works well in the bottom third.

Well last I heard Soriano was planning on coming back the 24th, and he made a rehab start in rookie ball yesterday and DH'd, but went 0-2 with a walk.

Looks like barring a collapse the Cubbies will remain atop the NL Central for the time being.

Are you trying to jinx the Cubs or what? Howry just gave up a 3-run homer.

And Lou seriously needs to stop pitching Howry so much. He's not going to turn it around. Try to find out what you have with Cotts or Gaudin.

Ok Jistic, you might be right. What is the deal with Howry lately??

These upcoming games with the Brewers are going to be nuts. They will be playoff type atmosphere games.
