Thank God Lou is putting him in there for mop up work now. I think he finally gets it. Took long enough, but maybe he's realized finally that he can't be counted. It's so funny though whenever I see the linescore and see we gave up runs in the late innings, I just KNOW he was big part of it. I click on the box score, and WHAMO! like clock work.

He's just awful, there's no other way around it. Great sweep though. For all the crap Soriano's gotten, we're so much a better team when he's in there.

Howry has been absolutely awful this season...I cant believe Eyre and him couldnt have had more productive seasons.

As for Soriano...I've hated on him before, but this guy is a definitely a superstar. I think he's finally 100%.

          Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

That was definitely a great sweep by the Cubs in Atlanta, now they have to take care of business down in South Florida. For some reason they struggle down there, but with Z and Dempster going this weekend I would be happy with 2 out 3.

As far as Howry hopefully we have seen the last of him for a while. With September call ups around the corner I think Home Run Howry will see zero playing time in the next few days. You have to think that he will be in Lou's dog house for some time. Let's fry those fish tonight.

It's funny how Marquis could be going to the playoffs for the third year in a row but will probably be left of the playoff roster again.

                Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

i like that Lily threw at that guy...I would have thrown at his head. The Braves have, it seems, something against Soriano. They broke his hand earlier, and now have taken offense at the fact that he watched what he thought was a homerun...then threw behind his head....bobby cox is a bitch. I guess they can't take it when they don't get the bigger strike zone than other teams, and their ridiculous front office flops.

As for Marquis, I will throw my support to him. He has been arguably the best 5th starter in the majors. while not every outing has been great, he has given us several very good starts, and some of these were of the great variety. I would dump Howry and Ward off the postseason roster and keep Marquis.

What is the size of the playoff roster compared to the regular season roster? Does it change. or do teams often rearrange their rosters by dropping a pitcher in place of another hitter?

In the latter case, who would we see? Hoffpauir?

Wow! I was thinking the same thing as I watched the game Why can't we beat these fish? At one point I almost turned the game off I was so frustrated but I kept watching. Then what do you know Ward goes deep. I scared my little girl half to death as I jumped out of my lazy-boy. She just looked at me like I was crazy.

You can't say enough about our pen on a night when Z had another bad outing Gaudin comes in and shuts them down. Keeping us in the game, nothing this team does surprises me anymore. As a long suffering Cubs fan this has been fun, hopefully we can ride this momentum deep into October. Let's fry these fish up again tomorrow. Go Cubs!!!

                        Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

great hack job by the ump on Fontenot's last at-bat of the night...

Cubs can be blamed for leaving tons of men on base, but that **** was unbearable. Two borderline strikes that were not being called the entire evening. Great job there, professional ump guy....

If umps called those pitches strikes consistently, no one would get a hit bc those pitches can't be reached by half of the batters in the bigs. Batting averages would be in the cellar, and no pitcher would ever need to come inside.

Fontenot made his feelings known, but both he and Lou should have exploded on the guy. In the end, I think Lou knew that his team had plenty of chances to win the game. Twice, however, with tying and winning runs on, the idiot-sides of ARam and Lee show up...All the team needed was a base hit, yet both come up swinging for the fences and end up with 2-strike counts and grounding out...

There is a story about how Lou got fed up with Ichiro and told him to start pulling the ball...why doesn't he say that **** to Kosuke? This guy tries to opposite field pitches that are middle in!! Cut that **** out! Pull the ball...hell, hit it over the fence in Right Field!! I would have no problem with Lou sitting him until he begins to act like a professional hitter...start walking again, and try to pull the ball when you're supposed to...he is starting to look like a jack-***.

Looks like the road wins are finally coming around and if we play just .500 ball for the rest of the year we'll finish with 95 wins. But I think we will do a bit better than that.

the only thing i don't like is that there is little to no bonus for winning your division. at the same time, even with 2 divisions, it would take way too long to ahve a bye-round.

I think the Cubs are the best in the NL, but LA, Milwaukee, Arizona, and Philly could all win a 5 game series against them. They better bring their A-game, though! This team is 1-9 and from starters to bullpen very solid and very legit.

Derrik Lee now is closing in on 4 HR's in 3 months.

He has ZERO in the month of August.

This guy is the black hole of our lineup. I really wish Lou had the nut to move him down in the order. He's just not a "3" hitter. He did however bat in a run by hitting into a double play.

Otherwise, thanks to Carlos for having to hit the game winning run in because his offense was doing nothing for him.
