Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
cosign. Its kind of fun that you have an arms race of sorts going on in the NL Central. Usually you expect to see this from the BoSox and Yankees.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Gaudin makes this deal worthwhile. I would have been a bit upset if all we got was Harden.
I was actually a bit surprised by this, as I was of the impression that our starting pitching was not really giving us problems. Marquis has probably been our weakest link, and to be honest, he has pitched very well (relative to what you expect from him).
When I first heard of the trade my first thought was "please say the Cubs did not send Gallagher..." I am not angry about losing him, given the upside of Harden/Gaudin...but Gallagher looked every bit the part of quality starter.
In the end, I am not sure the team improved the depth of its starting pitching, though hopefully the quality did improve some. There is a small possibility, I think, that starter-wise, this was a sideways move. I say this because Harden will have to be very good in order to provide a big jump from what Gallagher was providing. We won't be able to tell, however, until the season ends.
I really give my thumbs up to the trade. It was smart. We don't need Donaldson, Murton has good qualities but we are getting many of those from others (Fontenot, DeRosa), and Patterson is the kind of prospect you hate to lose but love to have for this kind of trade.
I think the roster is set...it seems unusual to say, but I don't know that we could really improve on any of our field players given how most have played. Really, who would you tell they had to sit down? I would not be upset with another reliever.
GO CUBS!!!!
ps--I am glad we beat Harang yesterday...that guy can own us sometimes...Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

This is a high risk high reward type deal. Stuff wise there really isn't much of a comparison between Harden and Gallagher. Sean has good stuff but its nowhere near as good as Harden's. If Rich can stay healthy that gives us two #1 starters to go along with an All Star in Ryan Dempster and a solid Ted Lilly.
Of course,I'm sure its going to end up blowing up in our faces."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Shut Your Mouth!!! I don't want to hear that kind of talk....
Cards losing, Brewers lost...good day.
Wow, Zambrano is hitting .358....he should be our 5th OFer. Seriously, he might be our second best bat off the bench.
How about this...need a lefty Pinch Hitter...do you go with Z or Edmonds? It is a no brainer for me. The only way I would choose Edmonds is if I really needed an opposite field single...Big Z all the way.
Again, I am appreciative of Edmond's contributions...but he is hitting .226. We are talking Mendoza territory here. Can his place in the starting 9 really be justified? It is hard to say, but damn...we dropped Pie to the minors for a very similar average (and Pie will make it home on a sac fly). I hope the Cubs don't miss Patterson as a lefty OF option....wait! what am I saying? we have Hoffpower.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Ramirez comes up big in the 8th, Wood makes the 9th an adventure, but we get the win.
Harden starts tomorrow.
I actually heard someone say this was a weak year in the NLC...what a *******. Seriously. ESPN is ********. The NLC and the ALE each have all their teams with .450+ winning percentages. Only on NLC team has a losing record against the NLW, and no NLC team has a losing record against the NLE (two are at .500). Only one NLC team, however, has a winning record on the road....damned cardinals.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I think the most important thing about today's game was Marquis' outing. He pitched an absolute gem, hopefully he keeps that up...now we just gotta get Lilly back on track.Comment
