I agree that Edmonds' attempt to score on that play was just terrible. He didn't hussle all the way, and if he wanted, he could have tackled Molina pretty easily anyway. But to be fair, his batting avg. with the Cubs has been pretty decent (~.280), and his power numbers have been solid. But what's the alternative? I liked Reed Johnson as our leadoff hitter earlier in the season, but for some reason, Lou hasn't put him there nor played him much at all for a long while.

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Reed Johnson is on the DL with back stuff...
Edmond's average with the Cubs is better than his overall average. I think, however, that the trend will continue towards the latter. He is still a good hitter, I just think on fewer pitches and locations.
If it is a matter of him being a good rbi guy, I think he would still have chances lower in the order, given the high averages of Soto and DeRosa (DeRosa is awesome...Brian who?).
I will agree that you get some upside in experience and that he has performed well (i think above his head), but Edmonds will provide more 0-4 days and slow-deaths on the paths than otherwise.
In the end, however, I don't think he is responsible for today's loss... Unless he tanked that play...surely not...Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
He's actually off the DL now. But when he was healthy, he wasn't playing as often as I'd like, and when he was, he wasn't hitting leadoff.

Starting a home stand against the Reds tonite, Z is back as is Johnson, hopefully Soriano wont be to far behind. I think we'll be okay despite the Brewers getting C.C.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
He won't really have any effect against us when we play the Brewers if he starts every 5th day...we'll only face him once if they don't mess around with their rotation...but it will be in our last series, which isn't a good time proably.Comment

I hate loosing Gallagher but I think this is a good deal. And maybe we can beef our team up even more.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

It's a $7 mil club option.

I hate losing Gallagher and Patterson. But this is a very good deal imo, especially after Milwaukee acquired CC."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."
