    Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

Once again the Braves go throwing at Soriano. And now he has a broken hand. It would be rather satisfying to see the Cubs take a pound of flesh from Chipper when the Cubs go to Atlanta.

And he's out for 6 weeks....crappy news because he's a presence in our lineup although he is brutal defensively. Hey, but we're still winning though

        Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

I expect him to be out for a good bit more than 6 weeks. Best case scenario, he decides to take an ounce off his bat and picks up some bat speed.

We did well without him before, though I will admit that I am not happy to see him leave the lineup. Perhaps they will bring in someone new, but I am also anxious to see who will be brought up out of Iowa. It would be nice to still have Pagan in the system. I hope it is not Murton. I would take Pie back, but he still isn't hitting.

So...what do you think the lineup will look like?

This is a good opportunity to move Fukudome to 2nd...if not first, but that is highly unlikely. Maybe now Soto and DeRosa will be back to back again...They are deadly. I am willing to put our bottom half against anyone's.

I am glad we have Hoffpauir back.

I don't mind them calling up Patterson...but putting him at leadoff right out of the gate against Tim Hudson?!? Please...that is ignorant as all hell...

There are lefties on the bench (fontenot) other than Jim Edmonds...how is this guy trotted out there nearly every time a righty takes the mound, while Fontenot sits?

              Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

Great game, well at least ending today. A very nice sweep of the Braves, but they have lost 21 1 run games and are the worst road team in baseball....but damn, i'll take it brothers.

I see Soriano has been upgraded to 4 to 6 weeks now, and here is to hoping it's the 4. Jimmy Ballgame comes through today in a big way, and has been pretty decent lately. Him and Reed have been good pick ups this year. The retro look on WGN was pretty cool, the graphics were kickin....

Also a nice job from Woody again. This road trip is going to be tough, 3 games @ TOR, 3 games @ TBAY, then 3 at home against the Sux....I would hope we can go 5-4 at the minimum.

Finally, I am love with that "Before HD" Cubs commercial on WGN. I love the music and the flashback showing the likes of Gracie, and Beckers, Harry and The Hawk.......Love it

The teams wore throwback jerseys, the used late 60's early 70's graphics. When Jimmy hit the game tying HR, the flashed "HEY HEY" on the screen and Len did avery good impression Jack calling a HR. Then at the end, they showed Jack's last signoff w/ Milo in 1981.

The WGN Logo was old school, and in the beginning, they show fans entering the ballpark in black and white. Overall, a very fun day, and another sweep, and the Best record in Baseball, and....well you get the picture Fugs

It feels satisfying to sweep those POS headhunting Braves. I like the day games when we win. Its fun to go home with a victory in hand.

so...i like to think that i pay attention...but do the Braves really throw at (Cubs) batters often?

If so, I would have loved to see Zambrano put a laser right on Teixera's hip...or better, McCann...if anyone called for the shot on Soriano, it was him...

I wonder if Lily threw at him because the Braves were peeking in at Soto's signs...

Braves rally for testy win over Cubs

Atlanta Braves' Edgar Renteria steals second as he collides with Chicago Cubs second baseman Mike Fontenot in the first inning of a baseball game in Atlanta Sunday, June 10, 2007. Cubs starter Ted Lilly was ejected after hitting Renteria with a pitch. Renteria quickly retaliated, hitting Fontenot in the face as he slid into second base on the successful stolen base attempt. By George Henry, Associated Press Writer | June 11, 2007
ATLANTA --Bobby Cox insists he has no animosity toward the Chicago Cubs. Lou Piniella said he feels the same way about the Atlanta Braves.
The reality, however, is that each manager oversees a pitching staff that keeps hitting batters on the other team.
"We have no problem with the Cubbies at all," Cox said. "And they don't have a problem with us."
Willie Harris scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Chicago closer Ryan Dempster with two outs in the eighth inning, giving the Braves a testy 5-4 win over the Cubs on Sunday night.
The game got off to a scrappy start. Cubs starter Ted Lilly was ejected in the first inning after hitting Edgar Renteria with a pitch, causing the benches and bullpens to empty.
Moments later, Renteria retaliated. He smacked Cubs second baseman Mike Fontenot in the face with his right hand while stealing second. The teams stayed calm after the play, and it was peaceful the rest of the night.
"Outside of the fact that we have a tired bullpen and a tough loss, I'm not going to talk about it," Piniella said. "We're battling."
Renteria left for a pinch-hitter in the fourth because of a bruise on his left hand, the result of Lilly's fastball. The Braves said X-rays were negative.
"It hit me in the hand and the chin also," Renteria said. "But I have a big chin. Strong. I understand the game. If he hit me on my buttocks, I understand, but to hit me in the head, I don't understand that."
Harris had a pinch-hit single and stole second in the eighth. He moved to third when Yunel Escobar's double-play grounder tied it at 4.
The Braves scored three runs in the eighth off Dempster, who had pitched nine straight scoreless innings.
"I don't have a clue," Dempster said when asked about the wild pitch. "My foot just gave out, and I slipped. That's not where we lost the game. We lost it earlier."
Atlanta had lost eight of 10 at home and 10 of 16 overall, but Scott Thorman made it 4-3 with his RBI double off Dempster (1-3).
Michael Barrett and Fontenot homered for the Cubs.
Chad Paronto (3-1) escaped a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the eighth when Fontenot hit into a double play and Cesar Izturis grounded out. Bob Wickman closed for his 11th save in 13 chances.
The Cubs made it 2-all in the fifth on Fontenot's RBI triple and Alfonso Soriano's sacrifice fly.
Barrett's ninth homer gave Chicago a 3-2 lead in the sixth, and Fontenot made it 4-2 with his first career homer in the seventh. All of the Cubs runs were charged to starter Buddy Carlyle.
Atlanta took a 2-0 lead in the third on Kelly Johnson's eighth homer and Jeff Francouer's broken-bat RBI single.
Both runs came off Carlos Marmol, who replaced Lilly in the first and gave up five hits and struck out two in 2 1-3 innings.
Lilly had a 2-0 count on Renteria when he hit him. Renteria took a couple of steps toward the mound before plate umpire Jim Wolf and Barrett, the Cubs catcher, stepped in front of him to prevent a fight.
"I was talking to the catcher, and he said, 'He was not trying to hit you,'" Renteria said. "I said, 'OK. I don't fight. You don't see me charge the mound.'"
In the Braves' 9-5 victory on Saturday, Atlanta starter Tim Hudson hit Cubs leadoff hitter Alfonso Soriano with a pitch in the back. The day before, Soriano hit three homers in a 9-1 win.
Renteria homered and drove in four runs on Saturday.
"We honestly did not hit Soriano on purpose," Cox said. "But we were trying to go in. He hangs out (over the plate), but to them, he's been so hot lately, especially against us, it appears that we hit him. It puts the manager in a tough predicament."
Notes:@ Braves 3B Chipper Jones took a couple of swings in live batting practice for the first time since May 24. The 1999 NL MVP, who went on the 15-day with a bruised right hand June 1, still has soreness in his wrists and has no immediate timetable for his return. ... Hudson, who took a line drive off his left leg and had to leave his start Saturday, believes he will feel good enough to start on Thursday at Minnesota.
Its the same old crap from them. They get frustrated and they start throwing at people and cheapshotting people at 2nd.

I remember that game, I watched it last year...I knew there was a reason why people were getting upset with Soriano getting hit.

                              False.

Listen, Lee is a solid 1B but he needs to hit better than he has recently. It should be a fairly easy fix, but I think fugazi is right to say that the organization is at fault for 100 years of worthlessness. A better organization with better coaches probably would have tried to help him by now. As far as I know, the only thing he's done so far is take [extra?] batting practice. Bring out some tape ffs. If the technology is there, use it.

Little fact for ya bud. A .280 average isn't considered struggling. Not every player on this team is going to hit .300, thats just the fact of the matter.

Were right now 19 games over .500 and the other players are picking up D Lee's slack right now. Not to mention the runs that this guy is saving with his glove. When his batting average is around .250 or lower will talk.
