Re: The 2009 New York Yankees
That's simply not true as a starter, he has yet to prove that. That's what YES, the Yanks' brass, etc is always saying but if you watch him it's not the case. You don't consistently struggle to get through 5 innings and throw 100 pitches in 4-5 innings when you have 3 plus pitches.
I had a funny feeling on Friday afternoon when I heard that Hunter and Vlad had just been put on the DL that we'd end up getting swept. Just a typical thing for the Angels to do, comedy."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Well the pitch that he's struggling the most with is his fastball, it's not his breaking pitches or changeup.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: The 2009 New York Yankees
Last year as a starter he was still throwing 94-96 consistently, and still hitting the upper 90's and even 100 occasionally. This year, he hasn't had it. I don't know what the problem is, but I don't think it is being a starter.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: The 2009 New York Yankees
They said they changed his mechanics during the off season to allow him to be more durable and that has affected his velocity. So who knows, maybe if he goes back to the pen he won't be able to dial it up to 98 mph anyway."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: The 2009 New York Yankees
Sweep! One game out of first.
Great start by Joba. He looked shaky early but then really got going and finished the game great. First couple innings he was throwing 90-92, last couple he was throwing around 95-96 and he hit 97 a few times.
Hopefully he carries this over to his next starts, we've seen this occasionally this year, but not enough.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Joba wants to give me an ulcer."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: The 2009 New York Yankees
I noticed Joba's got that little hitch back in his delivery. The results were great but I had read that Dave Eiland had changed Joba's delivery (smoothed it out) so he wouldn't be succeptible to the injury he had last year. Joba looked great but now I'm worried about his rotator cuff.
All this agita over Joba...let's trade him for Roy Halladay!!Comment
