Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Anybody up to attend any of the Dodgers games the weekend of August the 28th?
I know you guys are going to kill me but I am a closed Dodgers fan I always have been.
I was a huge Dodgers fan until I moved to Cincy about 15 years ago, now I cant help but follow the Reds. lol
I went to the game Saturday night and set in my wife's work seats which are the first row behind the Reds dugout and I must say Joey Votto might be the all time favorite athlete now!
Listen to this story! My 2 1/2 year old daughter absolutly loves Joey I pretty much watch the Reds every night and every time they show him she goes nuts and screams his name. She even "calls" him on her fake cell phone about 100 times a day and wishes him "good luck" for that nights game. Anyway we got to the game really early Saturday and she had on her little Votto jersey that I had just bought her that day. When he came out to warm up she went nuts! She kept yelling his name but being she is 2 and there where about 100 other older kids yelling at him he couldnt see or hear her. Well Paul Janish did she her and was laughing at her. Joey only signed about 2 or 3 autographs and then went into the dugout. Well about 5 minutes later Janish came back out and pointed at me and my daughter and threw me a signed Votto ball and told me how cute my daugher was!
Then Votto came back out to do some running and strechting and when he went back into the dugout after running he got as close to us as he could and asked me if we got the ball he signed. I told him yes and he told me it was a previledge to play in front of fans like my little girl!
Seriously how cool is that????Last edited by jake44np; 08-03-2009, 07:04 AM.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Well as expected Volquez is out 12 months after Tommy John surgery.
Also not much talk of the Rolen trade on here, I for one think it was a very good trade for the Reds. It sounds like he wants to finish out his career here. He really like living in the midwest.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Rolen is from Indiana, and his family lives there so it seems like he wants to be close to home and if he stays here for the rest of his career I wouldn't mind it because he brings veteran leadership and is still a good hitter.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I am sorry I know this is my first post but I need to vent. I am so sick of this team it isn't even funny. We are about to see this hyped up young team fall below the Pittsburgh Pirates into the cellar of the Central. The same Pittsburgh Pirates that decided to trade everyone on there opening day line up except for one player. I think it's time to pull a Pirates maybe and sell everything. This obviously hasn't been working since I was born; yes I know I am only 19 but losing is getting old. No one seems to be able to figure things out. I understand I need to should try to be patient and give Walt and Bob time but it so hard to. Since we drafted Homer B all I been hearing from local media and die hard fans (I have lived in Cincy my whole life) is 10' is our year! Well 10' is coming up next year and it defently wont be our year. I know I yet to see the changes but I mean come on there is to many needs on this team now and they have just given up. So first thing to do is FIRE DUSTY BAKER; which I been saying since day 1 and second thing trade EVERYONE not named BRUCE, BAILEY, VOTTO, PHILLIPS, CUETO (SRY IF I FORGOT SOMEONE)! Everyone else on this team can go in my opinion. I know alot of people say we should keep CoCo but the thing is if he is only pitching once a week he is useless. I probably am going to be ripped on this but I'm sorry; I am just sick of waiting and hearing oh well maybe next year.Comment

As far as Dusty goes, what you said won't be very popular but I also agree. I don't like him. No other reason that I want him gone other than I just don't like him. Didn't like him coming in, don't like him now. He has done ok with what he has had, which is next to nothing, so it is hard to grade his management at Cincy. But for me the first thing that needs to happen, as I said in a recent post here, is to get a hitting and pitching coach that knows how to teach hitting and pitching. Then get rid of everyone that is being paid too much and then get some young guys up and get some experience. We have some talent in the minors, but we need coaches that will help them progress.
If you have a good hitting and pitching coach, and talent on the field, then it won't matter too much who is managing.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I'd like to see Hanigan stay, and Masset seems like a good reliever.
I've wanted Dusty gone since day one. I never thought he was a good fit with this team, especially this year's team and all the youth. If there were a ton of veterans on the team it might be different but the Reds need a hardass who's not afraid of chewing them out when they doing something wrong, not Dusty and his ahh-shucks attitude.Lux y VeritasComment

Lets go around the horn and take a look at the injuries to our projected starters.
1B-Votto, missed almost what 5 weeks dealing with an inner ear infection and then an anxiety disorder?
2B-Phillips, missed only a handful of games this year but is still playing with a sore finger that will need offseason surgery.
SS-Gonzalez-missed big chunks of the season at two different times. First the first month and a half and again recently missed about 20 games.
3B-Edwin (who is now gone), missed almost half the season with an injury.
C-Hernandez, missed time early in the year and is now going to miss the last 3 months of the season.
RF-Bruce, going to miss the whole second half of the season.
CF-Taveras, has missed time this year on 8 different occasions for mild injuries.
LF-Dickerson, is going to miss the whole second half of the season.
SP-Volquez, has pretty much missed 75% of the season, he will make 9 starts this year.
SP-Arroyo, has only missed 1 start this year.
SP-Harang, has pitched all year but really looks like he is hurnt. lol
Again take a look all 8 of our starting position players have missed alot of time this year. Its like Brantley said two night ago on the radio. He said in his 30 years in baseball he has never seen a team with so many injuries and Marty agreed with him.
You could have fired Dusty at the beginning of the year and brought in any manager in baseball history and they would not have won with this team unless they would have brought in Jesus as the trainer to heal all of our guys.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Dusty sucks leaves in Taveras to hit last night in the ninth rather than PH Rolen or Sutton, I am officially done. DUSTY LEAVE TOWN NOW!!!!!Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
Rolen might not have been an option, I heard he didnt want to play last night. But what about the left handed hitting Sutton?ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
I was so confused about not pinch hitting for Taveras there.
Turns out Scott Rolen wasn't available to pinch hit though, and Dusty said "I'm not sending the kid up there in that situation" about Sutton.
If we keep Taveras for next year we're basically guarunteed no success(because we know he'll be starting, and if he doesn't I will cry tears of joy).Comment

Not with Bruce, Gomes, Dickerson, and I really think Stubbs will make the team out of spring training next year. I just dont see a sport for Taveras.
Another thing why is Gonzalez playing at all right now? He will not be back next year as his contract is over. Why not just play Janish everyday the rest of the year? What good does it do to play Gonzalez at all the rest of the year? Let someone play who will be on the team next year.
Also I was reading that Todd Frazier is the 2B of the future for this team and that Brandon may either be traded or moved to SS in the near future. The guy is having a heck of a year at AA Carolina, he is batting .304 with 12 hrs and 57 rbi's, he also has 36 doubles already this year. The article I read said he was a future Jeff Kent in that he was a power hitting 2B. It said he didnt have the range to play SS or the arm to play 3B. It said the Reds are set on keeping him at 2B, like I said what does that do to Brandon.
Again the article said Brandon may become to expensive for the Reds right in time for Todd to take over for him. It said Todd would hit 40 hrs in the majors one day.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds
The thing that you dont mention at all is all the injurys this team has had this year. Do you realize that their projected opening day roster played a total of 10 games together this year? A small marked team like the Reds can not win when they have so many injuries, period. They are not the Yankees who can go out and buy someone to replace their injured players.
