Re: Seattle Mariners 2012 team thread

Word on the street is Jack Z is shopping Felix for the Washington Huskies' new safety, Shaq Thompson. Thompson was drafted in the 18th round by the Red Sox.

"We really like Shaq's bat at this point, and he would have to headline any deal for Felix," said Z.

Thompson is currently playing for the GCL Red Sox.

In 37 at-bats, he has struck out 36 times (you can't make this stuff up). He has managed to draw 8 walks and has also stolen a base.

"We think he could fit into the middle of our order right now," said Z.

That's pretty much my entire point.

You don't trade him this year unless you're utterly blown away by the offer. The M's don't know their needs yet with the youngsters still developing. I'm not ready to give up on Montero, Ackley, & Co because they've struggled in half a season.

Teams are still going to try like mad to get him next summer as well, so they have a little time.

Getting away from the Trade Felix propaganda from the National Press, which still makes absolutely zero sense at this point in time, that Danny Hultzen kid is pretty damn good. Another impressive start in Tacoma last night. The walks are still too high, but he's showing improvement in his control over the last month (not wasting as many pitches out of the zone) and the 12.15 K/9 is ridiculous.

Paxton looks to be back to his pre-injury self in July. If both he & Hultzen keep this up another 2-3 weeks, Paxton is going to take Hultzen's spot (after his promotion) in Tacoma for a cup of tea in AAA.

I agree on Felix. It is ridiculous but I sway like the wind from day to day on how I feel about trading him.

A starting rotation of Felix, Hultzen, Walker, Paxton and another arm is enough to get any M's fan excited.

I just wish Safeco Field wasn't the death of M's hitters... They can really hit on the road but are just atrocious at home.

I still think the future is a lot more bright than dim, it's just tough to be patient.

If they trade him, they will never get equal value. So why trade him now? If he's gone, then get what you can out of him before you reduce the future and current quality of your team.

I'm still high on Erasmo. If he or Walker is our 5th starter in 2 years, that is a top 10 pitching staff.

Its hard to believe they lead the league in runs scored on the road and are last in runs at home. Amazing split...unheard of.

Coug_00, what would your thoughts be if say a team like the Diamondbacks came in and offered Upton and Bauer for Felix? It won't happen, but if the M's get a great package involving MLB ready talent, it might be hard to pass up.

I forgot about Erasmo... He'll be good, too. Pitching wise, we're looking very good in the future.

I know you didn't ask me, personally, but I would take that deal in a heartbeat.

Not only do you get a MLB ready five tool player and potential ace, but said potential ace will be under your control for a minimum of six years and doesn't have insane money invested in him yet. Said five tool player still has 3.5 years left on his contract as well and the M's are in dire need of offense.

They would absolutely have to take that trade if offered.

For a deal like Upton and Bauer, even I would say that's a good deal. But that's the only type of deal I would want: an unrealistic package that no other GM in their right mind would really give up.

Same here... Which really just shows my unwillingness to part with him.

I'd want a proven, all-star caliber offensive player and a young, club-controlled potential Ace involved.

55, I agree. A deal like that would be hard to pass up, but few teams have the trade chips to get him.

My hope is that he means it... He loves Seattle and wants to always be here. Being an M's fan, we've heard it before and that's what scares me.

See, I wouldn't take that deal if I'm Jack-Z. Upton's power is completely neutralized at Safeco. He's a strictly pull-power hitter.

Bauer's ceiling is Felix-caliber and about 1% of players truly reach their ceiling. I think I'd like the Felix+OF more than Upton+Bauer.

And I'm more in the mindset that Felix isn't all about the money. Not every player in baseball is about money (see Jered Weaver). We'll see if he stays. He was a Mariners fan growing up. If "Walzton" pan out and some of the hitters develop more, it's going to be very tempting for Felix to stay.
And that deal would make no sense for Towers either. I know it wasn't intended to be realistic from Arizona's standpoint, but no way they'd trade those two for 2.5 years of Felix.

Ichiro, just traded to the Yankees for minor league pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farqhuar.
                          Kemp for NL MVP

For all Ichiro has done for the Mariners, I am glad to see them move him.

Now if the Mariners can wake up their bats at home, we'll be in decent shape!

                              Thanks for everything, Ichi.

Never has been one of my favorite M's, but I greatly respect his talent and all of the personal accomplishments he's piled up here...

Be honest... If the Yankees make it to the postseason, is anyone here going to be rooting for them so Ichiro can get a ring?
